Description
I can understand CBJ hesitation to trade Panarin because they want to "go for it", especially after the Duchene move. BUT have to think Columbus is much more inclined to trade Panarin in a sign and trade to get the max return, opposed to losing him for nothing. Duchene + Kahun can help replace his production. I've been on board with the mindset of why risk waiting until the off-season to get into a sweepstakes that you're not guaranteed to win. It's known Chicago is one of only a handful of places he would sign long-term, so why not give up a couple extra assets to guarantee his services. There is a lot of pressure to win NOW while Kane and Toews are each having career years, and I don't think Stan could handle the heat if he couldn't surround them with enough talent to even make the playoffs. Also, potential for home playoff games = revenue, which we all known is John McD's top priority. The move makes sense.

In terms of price, its two Firsts (due to him signing the extension), plus a First round D prospect, a low 2nd/high 3rd line winger, a young D-man who you can trust in your 3rd pairing, and a conditional pick if we get the desired amount of home playoff games. Fair price? Tried using Erik Karlsson and Duchene trades as guidelines. What will a 2020 first round pick really do for us when the player drafted in that spot likely won't contribute to the NHL team until Toews and Kane age 33-34 seasons? Go for it.

The other move is a pure personal preference. Watching Murphy in the offensive zone makes me cringe, and he just doesn't do enough defensively to overcome that. Get what you can for him, while you still can. Call-up Mitchell when his college season is over. Not sure on price here, I just know we will need him off the books regardless when it comes time for Debrincat/Strome pay days.

This weekends games will tell us all we need to know about our legitimacy with "playoff contenders"... your guess is as good as mine. Team is still extremely flawed in bottom 6 and on the back end, but at least it's been entertaining again.

I just don't think there's a point to trading for him. It's not like this makes the Hawks cup contenders. Let those prospects develop.

I get that, but you have to take advantage of your stars playing this well. They might only have 2 years left at THIS level of play, makes me think you go for it now and not worry about who you would be drafting with 2019-2020 First Rounders... by the time those guys are contributing the window is likely closed shut anyway

Forsling and Beaudin aren't useful to us (we're overstrength at LD at all levels), so we'd be looking for different assets. Not a bad start, though.

Maybe Joki instead of Beaudin and Hayden instead of Forsling? Think that improves the offer in both aspects. Although, at that point Hawks would probably just take their chances in free agency over this.

I think next year they're gonna go for it. THey'll have an insane blue line if they can trade Gus, Forsling, maybe Murphy or Koekoek and maybe even find a taker for Seabs if he'll wave. They can bring up Jokiharju, Boqvist, Mitchell, and maybe Krys for next season. Panarin wants to come back to Chicago. That's why he's "testing" free agency. He misses playing with Patrick Kane. The top line will be loaded with Toews, Kane, and Panarin. Second line will be same as this year. I don't think at this point we'll get anything outstanding from the draft unless it's a top 15 pick. Right now, and with a big win tonight, we'll be in a good position. We won't catch Winnipeg or Nashville but we should be able to make it in as the Wild Card team. I'm OK with trading 1st or 2nd round picks for this and next year if we can get a better 3rd line center and some depth players. I don't wanna mess with the defence until next year preseason. We need to see who will be ready. Unless we trade for a rental defenseman, there's no point in making a move on the backend. I think Crow will be back for the playoffs and if our top 6 can produce like they have been, along with big saves from Crow and good D from our top 4, we'll be OK. I think if we are gonna face Peg or Smashville in the first round, we'll need to add some grit. Possible trade with St. Louis or Vegas for some better grit and depth?

noooo, you want to get rid of 2 dman, so we can completely miss playoffs? We can get Breadman off season. Just not even sure we need him now, we have a Cat who is 21 and already bitting Bread's numbers. Don't forget bread was 25 when he was playing with Kaner. And if Bread really wants to play for Hawks he will agree to $9MM and if not I'd rather get 2 players, like Ferland and maybe Dzingle
