It's a very solid contract in a vacuum. Kempny-Jensen is a cheap, reliable middle pairing. But there was no reason to do it this early, as Jensen might not be a great fit with the Caps.

I'm gonna vote no because of the risk it poses to extend him right now, but if Jensen has good chemistry with the Caps, it'll definitely become a yes vote.

yeah, personally found it a bid odd that they did the Kempny thing (i.e. extending him) straight away with Jensen. but he's a right-shot, and the Capitals don't look like they have any other prospects ready for the big show (maybe Jonas Siegenthaler).

Very Smart (Cheap) signing for a guy who has proven to be NHL worthy and he is a right-handed shooting defensemen who can move the puck and play on the penalty kill. Can play big minutes and he has a drive to win. Caps were very smart to sign him quickly and now they have locked in another cheap priced Defensemen.

Smart and cheap signing, but "too soon" comes to mind for this one.

Voting yes for value and term for the Caps regardless, but why not wait a minimum 5 games in before locking the deal up?

Priskie or hobbs might be able to slot in there but I imagine this is bc they are going to move nisk in the offseason

Kempny-Carlson
Orlov-Jensen
Djoos-Niskanen

Three balanced pairs that can move the puck and defend. I think it’s time to break up Orlov and Niskanen, as they’ve both been having bad years. We can roll with this, or if Jensen proves to be really good for us, trade Niskanen and free up cap space. It’s a good day to be a Caps fan

Few sources said that he agreed to sign an extension before being traded. So adding Bowey makes more sense now

Didn't the Caps wait to extend Kempny until after the Cup? Maybe they think Jensen's value will only rise now that he's playing w/ a better team. No way Kempny was worth $21.5M AAV before the playoffs last season. That's my reasoning. The term and dollar amount are actually identical now that I look at it. LOL.

He definitely was. No way they came to the agreement that quickly. 4 and a half seasons of Jensen locked up at a good rate is definitely worth that price

There is two main reasons why the Jensen contract does not make since one.

1. One less spot to allow and give opportunities, to Caps prospects such as Siegenthaler, Alexeyev, Hobbs, and Johansen. The Caps to six-d is basically set for the next three years

Carlson-Kempeny
Orlov-Niskanen
Djoos-Jensen

No room for prospects.

2. We know have limited money to sign Vrana and Djoos long term.
