Description

We have one star forward that is on a team friendly deal and everyone is trying to trade it away. Marner is absolutely not a 2+ million dollar or more better player than Nylander. He's been far and above our best player for almost 15 games now and anyone still arguing he's overpaid is butt hurt over the contract dispute. Give your head a shake, he's a core piece here in Toronto.

Imagine the damage this team could do (I don't think they likely would do this trade, too many assets going both ways)

I like your write up but that trade is awful. The Leafs would have to be severely handicapped to trade Johnsson.

In what measurable facet does Marner excel in which Nylander doesn't?

He is better both offensively and defensively. Marner plays against harder competition that Nylander. Everything about his game is better. You just have a hard on for Nylander for some reason.

-Marner has played against a LOT easy competition for the first 2 years of their careers and has played more minutes + way more PP time and teammates.
- Nylander can play C
- Nylander has far superior zone entry/exit stats.
- Since last year Marners assist rate is 1.64 and Nylanders is.... 1.64
Nylander has a nicer shot/puck control and Marner has better patience and handles.

I'm not even picking on Marner, I love him as a player. They're both star players who the Leafs are lucky to have. The Don Cherryesque gap is the problem.

He is just not nearly as good as Auston and possibly slightly better than Nylander

Lol.... Matthews is by far the best player on our team. Marner is great but has looked horrible lately (in relative terms) Nylander has looked very good. Much better than marner over the last 10-15 games.

I agree that there's no way they will or should trade Nylander without it being some kind of major haul in return.

But I also watch every minute of every leaf game...and Marner is a significantly more complete player than Nylander. Let's just be happy we'll have both for a very long time

Hardly... the trade value I believe is favouring NYR. Which leads me to believe it’s probably closer to fair than anything.
