hoffman was flipped to FLA for a 2nd a 4th and a 5th. if they want a 1st for him.. hard pass. maybe if he played center but this is a big overpay for 2nd line wing on an expiring contract in a deep market

He has 26 goals and 24 assists skating with Riley Sheehan/Vincent Trochek and Nick Bdugstad before he was traded. Imagine him with Barzal for a second

I’d hang on to Koivula. He’s the only center prospect we have with a realistic shot at making the NHL. There are other intriguing prospects worth just as much but are lower on their position’s depth chart. Aho, Quenneville and Vande Sompel are all intriguing prospects stuck behind Toews, Wilde and Dobson.

I also feel there’s a way to get this deal done without losing a 1st. But on the whole, I think it’s is fine.

I was an advocate for getting him but he is still a wing, and really a one dimensional player; fast goal scorer. never broken 30. Wingers don't usually fetch first rounders. the only time they do is if they are elite; hoffman is good, but he's not elite. I could have lived with a 2nd a conditional 3rd that becomes a second if the islanders make it to the cup final and Bellows but I would not give up a first for a second line one dimensional winger
