Best offer from Flames for Stone

Created by: Canadianape
Team: 2018-19 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 24, 2019
Published: Feb. 24, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is what i believe is the absolute best offer the Flames will offer for Stone. I have looked at everybody elses suggestions on this site and read some comments and this is what i believe is the common denominator resulting in the most Calgary will offer. Is it enough for Ottawa? i don't know but if it isn't than I don't believe there will be a trade
Trades
CGY
  1. Stone, Mark ($1,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Calgary gets stone with a slight retain for this season

This is also hinged on whether or not Calgary believes that they have a good shot of stone signing in the off season. if there is no assurance of that then this trade does not happen
OTT
  1. Andersson, Rasmus
  2. Dubé, Dillon
  3. Frolík, Michael
  4. 2019 1st round pick (CGY)
  5. 2020 2nd round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Ottawa gets a 3rd Line borderline 2nd line guy with 4.3 million of cap next season to help reach the cap floor.

They get a up and coming defenseman that is playing like he is going to be a top 4 in the near future and will likely be top 4 on Ottawa

an A level prospect that can slot into the third or fourth line next season for Ottawa and Dube has a ton of upside

finally a 1st in 2019 and a 2nd that becomes a 2020 1st with the conditions that the flames make the western conference final with stone playing atleast 50% of the games in the first 2 rounds and stone resigns in Calgary

Valimaki has much higher potential in the eyes of the flames i highly doubt valimaki will get traded. just my opinion though

2 automatic firsts is an over payment in my mind and i think in most flames fans minds. stone would have to be guaranteed signing in Calgary for them to even consider the second first round pick

I meant the 2020 2nd becoming a 1st. Anderson, Dube, a 1st and a 2nd and the possibility Stone signs back as a free agent. Ottawa will take that...

regardless if we pick up stone or not we are likely going to lose one of hammer or brodie after next season or at the trade deadline next season (likely brodie if we don't trade Anderson). this is an all in move to win this season or next. we wouldn't even be considering stone if Calgary didn't see this as a window to win. valimaki is an RFA after 2 more season and those other guys are all locked up for at least 3 more seasons. you can fill the 6th defense spot with a cheap veteran or young player. Calgary gets slightly worse on defense but massively improved offensively. michael stone will also be available for that 6th spot for atleast next season. you also have to take into account that if the cap continues to rise at the end of next season we could be looking at a cap of 87 million witch ius an extra 8 million we currently dont have

i just dont think calgary is willing to trade if they are not reassured that they have a good chance of signing stone but i see what you are getting at

I dont want them to its too expensive unless there is a trade and sign in place no question. too rich for me our window is just opening dont risk it all for 1 year.

just saw your other quote. i see what youre saying but its a lot of risk for one year. if we end up landing stone im going to be super happy no matter the cost (within reason) if we dont im ok with this team going into playoffs

like you said though dude, Tkachuk bennett hathaway, rittich and mangiapane are getting raises this summer. hammer and brodie and anderson need raises after next season, gio, our best D is getting older and he is up in 3 seasons. as well as gaudreu in 3 seasons who will be a massive pay raise. your right this is the first season of the window opening but it can slam shut as soon as three seasons from now. if the flames are gonna make a run for the cup i personally believe it needs to be this season or the next 2 seasons because who knows how long gio will be good and all of our defense is coming up for raises. you can shed some guys like frolik or Michael stone to get some cap back but that only serves to weaken the team. i dont think the above trade is to expensive at all considering those first round picks will be very late picks. the only real asset Calgary gives up is Anderson and he is definitely replaceable

edit: dont get me wrong i love anderson but the flames need to bite the bullet and shoot for the cup soon and in order to get better you have to give up assets

if you believe this to be true. trade the farm for stone and ceci (as depth for anderson leaving) and go for it. and it will be one hell of a ride.

i agree, whatever ends up happening i really hope the flames don't waste their window and end up with tkachuk monahan and gaudreau signed to super deals at 10+ in 4 years and end up looking like the chicago or LA but without the Stanley cups to justify it
