Description

Great comparable for Johnsson. Kapanen is harder to compare as he is a couple years younger

I'm just resigning RFAs to deals with recent comparables in mind. No trades or ufas. So cap/team isn't done. Just curious what cap looks like withe the comparable in mind.

Jonsson gets a big more for a bit more production this year

Kapanen gets the same number on a one year deal. Gets a prove himself contract to get arbitration and other side of Marleau's contract

So if trading brown for futures, calling up Engvall or Bracco can likely be just below the cap. Very tight

Cap will be closer to 83M. So you are two players short and over the cap but 2-2.5M already. Somebody needs to be traded for futures or ELC

Everybody in the NHL circle, media and fans alike know the Leafs are going to have to trade a player or 2 to keep the young core together. So take your pick of Zaitsev, Brown, Kadri or Nylander. Unless a miracle happens and the Leafs win the Cup this season and Marleau signs his retirement papers and than waives his NTC so his cap hit goes to another team.

Personally, I think the numbers for Sparks and Oz are about 100G higher than they would be but that's minuscule. Don't see Johnsson taking more than 2 years at that number especially if Kappy only gets one, he bet on himself this year by accepting his QO and I can see him doing similar next year now that he's really emerging.
I know you weren't making trades but I think this just shows the likely hood that Zaitsev and possibly Brown are shipped out over the summer to save space.

Back in December they said 83. McKenzie said 85 recently so I'm just hoping.
