Big W for the Sharks. They add a top 6 winger without spending a 1st.

They don't have 1st round picks anymore even if they wanted to trade it XD

Funny how the 2 teams (SJS and CBJ) with the most pending UFA's (who are still contenders) are trading their future away to secure their Cup dreams, rather than hope for a quick turn around and stay the course.

Given that Nyquist has a full NTC, he likely limited his list of teams to 1 or 2. Decent return for DET in that situation

Congratulations to San Jose. They deffinatly won because Holland was clear he was going to take a first for Nyquist and San Jose only had to give up a 2nd (2019) and 3rd/2nd (2020)

LET'S HOPE YZERMAN TAKES OVER BEFORE HOLLAND CAN DO ANY MORE DAMAGE.

I don't think he made a list, Detroit had to ask him to waive. I was wondering since he approved the trade does that make it more likely he will sign in San Jose?

How is this deal any better for the Sharks than the Dzingel deal was for the CBJ?

Semantics really. If they ask him to waive, he can say "I'll waive for these teams".

pretty fair deal tbh, realistically Detroit was never going to get a first for Nyquist. But the odds those conditions are met aren't that high so its a good chance its just a 2nd and 3rd.

Seems unlikely that this year will be the year for the "this is the year" San Jose Sharks. They've certainly thrown the farm and future at this narrow window, and maybe it's reasonable because this year seems like a down year for all the big teams of the past, with the exception of the Easts version of the "this is the year" team (Tampa). I don't think the Sharks are good enough to even make it out of the West though, and could be a likely crash and burn first round exit kind of team. Does Nyquist make them that much better? I think about Tatar last year in Vegas; sure he's a good player, but where does he fit in and how well does he transition to a new team that isn't Detroit (a fairly hardcore system team)?

So Detroit wins this trade in my books. Not a first, but likely two 2nd rnd picks. They still have Vanek for some last minute trade bait, so they might be able to round up a 3rd or 4th as well.

Probably the most lopsided trade of the deadline so far.

Nah I think it's about right.

This deal was set by the zuc trade to dallas.
If you look at it, basically same price. Players are kind of equal.
Both UFA next season. Only 2 years apart. GN has more goals but MZ had more total points. Pretty consistently through their careers.

Yeah both are lopsided but Zucc getting injured helps the Rangers as the condition which might happen the Rangers still get more value even if both teams get full value.

I don't see how it's more value. I don't see the Stars resigning him, and I don't see them making it to the 3rd round. You never know though. But they aren't exactly a favorite to get there. I thinking making the deal you know that and are OK with it if you are NY.
It's almost the exact same deal.

LOL at all the Wings fans on AGM who insisted on a 1st + for GN. In real life he's worth a LATE 2nd and a LATE 3rd. Miles apart.

surprised Det wasn’t able to get either a 1st or prospect out of Gus, I’m curious to see how Gus’ NTC played into that.

Good question, there are teams with more picks/prospects to spare than the Sharks (ex. Canes, Habs, Avs) that could have offered a better deal since the picks would be higher in the round, but perhaps Nyquist would not have agreed to the trade, or the offer wasn't made.

Detroit were forced into a corner. They got something for someone who potentially didn't want to be traded. Nyquist had a full NTC so Detroit had no say in where he went.

I read (unconfirmed), that Goose turned down two previous trades: one to Bos and the other unknown. If that’s the case and either team was giving a 1st then that really sucks. Holland’s trade clauses strike again!!
