What an absolute clownshow of an organization

Created by: BeterChiarelli
Team: 2018-19 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 25, 2019
Published: Feb. 25, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
That's two deadlines in a row that the Oilers have failed to get anything back for expiring contracts in years they aren't playoff teams.

I wasn't expecting a handsome return on **anything** but why couldn't they have loaded up on late picks or C-prospects? Absolutely ridiculous. Everyone running that team should be shot by sunset.

Something is always better than nothing. Absolutely they should have kept Stone, but a defence core built around Brannstrom and Chabot is going to be scary good until Ottawa refuses to pay them too.

Who did you want to give away? I don't see many expiring contracts...

Chiasson, Rieder, and Petrovic all have *some* form of value. Sell Brodziak, Kassian, and Benning for literally whatever you can get for them. Hell, Gravel might have had value as a depth pickup too. Like anything would have been better than sitting on their hands.

It was a buyer's market. There were far better options than our ****ty players. We still need NHL bodies. Leave that ahl team alone... It's tough to sell Reider who hasn't scored a ****ing goal lol. Chiasson I could've seen moved too. But I wanted Manning and benning gone. They both ****ing suck. Gravel is a good depth defenceman.. I am surprised they werent able to make a move.

We're there any Reider, Chaisson, Petrovic type players traded for?? Definitely no Brodziak and Benning. Kassian for a 7th?? Not really franchise changing.

RNH, McDavid and Draisaitl were valuable forwards. Nurse, Klefboom and Larsson on d. Maybe a sell low on Pulj.

This need to "leave the AHL team alone" is absurd to an extent. While I'm all for giving Benson and the kids big minutes, half-ish of the roster is still composed of AHL-only contracts. Callahan and Stanton are not major players on that team, call them up to fill spots. The Oilers have too many men on this roster currently, they easily could have moved guys for a 6th/7th and an AHL vet. It's routine mismanagement.

Winnipeg just added like 3 of those kinds of players today.

There are players to be had in the late rounds, and while it does require actually developing those kids (something I'm confident this organization couldn't do to save its life), it still gives them that chance of finding a diamond in the rough.

Chiasson gets you a 5th maybe....possible 4th
Rieder....has zero goals
Petrovic...has been a healthy scratch for awhile now.
Brodziak...see Chiasson's value.
Kassian....see Chiasson's value.
Benning....maybe a 7th.

honestly man, no way teams want/need these guys.

Must be frustrating

Dubas at least traded for nic petan and gave up nothing.

Petan could have been one of those hidden gems if given a chance in Edmonton.

Rieder is still a half-decent PK forward; for a 7th and at half his salary, you don't think there's a team that could slot him in on their 4th line? The Penguins just traded for Gudbranson, you can't tell me that ANY player in this league has zero value. I'd have taken a few additional late-round picks without question. It's all I wanted.

Like for reference, Matt Hendricks has been one of the worst players in the league this season and he brought in **something** of value to Minnesota. Like this team isn't competing for a playoff spot, why not get as many draft chances as possible, even if they're stupidly late picks?

Do you need a hug? Other teams also need to be calling you and/or picking up your calls. No one is going to do the Oilers a favor

I don't wanna see our ahl team lose there spark when they gotta come up to a super lack luster team in Edmonton where our coach puts the brakes on as soon as we have a 2-0 lead. They're rolling. They'll help some time in the future. I really hope they don't start winning games in garbage time for this " we'd like to finish on a good note , bring this into next season " . I'd just like to see some ****ty defenders gone that are not playing. No one's going to pay for our junk. I was hoping someone would have . Trust me, im with you on getting some picks and clearing space. But never worked out, so what can you do? Let the ****ty players walk in the off season . Resign Alex Chiasson for 850 k. Maybe 1 million. But the others I'd let walk and find a deal for someone either on the draft floor or offseason. I am curious about who our next GM is. Hopefully it's someone who has a ****ing clue.

I need a beer. Or 12.

I'm not convinced they didn't do their due diligence. After Columbus snagged Duchene and Dingel, there wasn't a lot left for purely rental forwards. Chiasson at minimum could have gone somewheres.
