Meh 4C for a PPG-23-year old AHL'er. Minor move but pretty ok for both.

Didn't notice Lindholm is a UFA after the year. Pretty fair then. TOR might even win.

Petan is 4y Lindholm’s junior and projects as at least a bottom-6 centre at the NhL level. Lindholm hasn’t scored a goal in over 50 games. And he’s played LW more often than C with the Leafs. The Leafs, organizationally, need more young talent up the middle and Petan fits the bill. Now they have Brooks and Petan up the middle on their middle-6 with the Marlies which (with Mueller on the 1st line) is’t too shabby.
Edit: In case it wasn’t obvious: I score this as a short term WPG win but beyond 3 months and overall a TOR win.

This is all about the Jets wanting to give Petan a shot somewhere else. Lindholm will sit in the press box for the rest of the year in his place.

Happy for Petan, after what happened with his dad passing during training camp and being in the press box it's been a tough year. Hope he gets some game time in Toronto.

Petan wont be going to the Marlies as he has to go thru waivers. One big reason why he has sat in the press box.

Yah...Its one of those things that the Jets wanted someone in return for depth while wanting to give Petan a chance. The only party that fully wins is Petan himself

Winnipeg get a great depth guy for the playoffs and Toronto gets an unproven rookie. Toronto couldn't afford lindholm next season, this was clearly a money move by Dubas.

Agreed.

Petan will probably accept league minimum for 2 years (as long as it's a 1-way contract).

His current contract is 2-way so he's only making $70k a year in the AHL.

I'm sure he'd be happy to lock up $1,400,000 without having to risk 90% of it.

Well ... I wouldn't call him a great depth guy.

And the Leafs are pretty well covered in case of injuries at center:

Matthews
Tavares
Kadri
Nylander
Marleau
Gauthier
Ennis
Mueller
Jooris

I'm not 100% sure ... but I think waivers are over after the trade deadline ... so the teams have more freedom now.

Aww, well goodbye Petan. You've been a solid player on the moose for us. Also had good stints on the NHL team.

Fine ... but there's no 23 man roster limit anymore.

So they can bring up whoever they wan't and keep them up all year if needed.

Lindholm is the better player right now, but Petan has a higher upside. Bad move for the team who got worse while trying to win now.
