Trying to get rid JJ bad contract bringing a bottom 6 winger

Description
I have to admit that's too damn hard to get rid of JJ bad contract. I know that my move isn't likely to happen. But If I were JR, I'd try to make it.

If you try to look in a good perspective from Ottawa's side, you can see that they will get one future high pick (which can become even higher) and a mid-pick right now to swallow JJ contract. So, it's not that bad it seems...

From Pens perspective, Boedker would help our bottom 6 offense. A need at this moment.
Trades
PIT
  1. Boedker, Mikkel ($2,000,000 retained)
OTT

  3. 2021 2nd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:

The framework of this trade is decent, but I doubt Ottawa's willingness to retain salary AND take a bad contract in the process as well. There must be something more tempting than semi low picks included to take Johnson for 4+ years...

A future conditional 3rd, which can become a 2nd is the one to tempt them to accept the trade. Besides, they also don't need Boedker. So trade him, even retaining his salary, to get one high pick and another mid-low, it could be interesting. At least is something to think about it...

PS: Let's not forget that I retained 750k of JJ contract.

From a hockey view point, it doesn't make sense for the Sens to do this. They have numerous LHD coming up that can have an impact and I think the "objective" is to tank for Lafreniere. Would be essentially paying a guy to take a roster spot from a young player. I'd rather pull out my hair in frustration watching Boro for 1 more year than going completely bald watching JJ for 4 more...

From a financial standpoint, it makes no sense either unless JJ goes on LTIR for the remainder of his contract. Melnyk doesn't want to pay people and is cutting costs until he can sell the team. Boedker has 1 more year after this one at 4 mil AAV and JJ has 4? Even if you retain 23% of his salary, he's still getting paid 3 mil AAV (12 million total).

Unless Pittsburgh sends their 1st rounder and a decent prospect in return, no deal.

Boedker's worth that conditional 3rd, probably a 2nd when retained. 30-point winger in $2M is generally around that value. So basically you're dumping Johnson to OTT for 4 years with $2,5M cap - and as we know, Melnyk really loves to pay players they don't want in the team.

Then you made my trade more reasonable now, cause he'd be paying for a player which he doesn't need and he'd still getting 2 picks. I will replace the 3rd conditional for a 2nd conditional. I think it'd be a fairer deal.

It's reasonable because of the 2 picks. One of them is a conditional 2nd (I improve the 3rd). So, as I said, it's something to at least think about it. If I were Ottawa's GM, probably I'd accept, because of the conditional 2nd.

Lmao I was sarcastic. Melnyk absolutely hates it. Just look what he and Dorion has done to the team - every single player wanting a raise were traded.

It's something that will be rejected unless a higher pick and prospect is involved. Saving money is, and always will be, the goal here until #MelnykOut happens... Melnyk won't be doing any of that taking on a schite contract in JJ.

Everyone but Rutherford knew that signing JJ was a bad move and now Pittsburgh is going to suffer because of it.

Oops. How I can't catch this up...? lol

It's pretty obvious, cause he always trade every single great player to don't have to re-sign them. Karlsson, Hoffman, Duchene, Stone...

From this point of view, you guys are right. Ottawa is not the better option to try to get rid JJ contract. I'll have to think for a better option.

Tks for the feedback.
