Missing Pieces

Created by: AudioCats
Team: 2019-20 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 26, 2019
Published: Feb. 26, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Or Top-6 needs a couple pieces that I think we can find in Free Agency (especially with the rental trades that just happened). If we can't lose Okposo's contract then Nyquist doesn't get signed.

Even with deals looming for Pilut, Montour, Mittelstadt, Olofsson, and Reinhart, we should have a ballpark of 8.5m to sign Dahlin with, and more if we lose Sheary/Bogosian.

Trades

BUF
  1. 2019 2nd round pick (FLA)
OTT
  1. Okposo, Kyle
  2. Thompson, Tage
Additional Details:
They get to the floor with a veteran to help the rebuild and a prospect that can play now in the NHL
2.
BUF
  1. 2019 3rd round pick (COL)
COL
  1. Scandella, Marco
Additional Details:
Colorado's D prospects are a year, maybe two away, and Scandella needs a change in scenery despite his good first year in Buffalo. If he doesn't work out then his contract is up soon. The Jensen trade makes the price for this kinda hard to tell though.

Id rather sign Spezza for cheaper and a shorter contract. More experience and they arent stuck with him when he doesnt pan out. Hayes doesnt fit in Buffalo

Spezza would've been good a couple years ago. Now he's slow, getting slower still, and doesn't provide any more offense than our other forwards. For a team that's trying to be modern, fast, and dangerous, he's a worse fit than Hayes. Hayes gives us a boost of grit and legitimate secondary scoring that we don't have. His contract comes off at 32 when players like him usually start to decline, and if he doesn't pan out, there will always be a market for 2C's like him.

As you admit, this team is supposed to be modern and fast. Hayes aint that. Spezza could beat him in a foot race. His experience is more important. On the 3rd line he'll be fine
