Sorry for the clickbait...or whatever the kids are calling it these days... I still think this trade makes sense. What says you, Boston?

Trade Breakdown: 2020 1st for taking on Backes' contract. Carlo and Studnicka for Spurgeon and Zucker. The Wild would be willing to retain salary on Spurgeon, if necessary to make this deal work. I admit this is a bit of a short-sighted move for Boston by giving up Carlo for Spurgeon, but their Cup window is clearly now...IMO.

I don't think Bruins need to attach that much to rid Backes. After July 1, 2019 he is tradeable as his actual money owed isn't much.

This is hardly "blowing up their team"... And no way is it a hard pass...they might very well pass on this deal...but it's definitely something they would have to think about.

Don't think Bruins sign McAvoy for anything under 6.5M for 4 years.

No it’s a definite hard pass. Just look at the value breakdown. A first for taking backes just doesn’t make sense. I honestly think there’s a really good chance backes either retires, or ltir retires after July 1st when he gets his bonus. If not, it’s because he wants to play. Well, he’s not playing for the bruins, so he’ll waive his ntc in my opinion. A first is too much, far too much.

The bruins aren’t trading Carlo and Studnicka for Spurgeon and Zucker. It blows up their long term structure on d. Spurgeon is awesome, but he’s a rental and is about to get paid. Carlo has 4 years left of team control, and beyond being an awesome shut down top four d, has tons of untapped potential. Studnicka is their best prospect, and plays the position the organization most crucially needs. I don’t think they’re giving that up for a rental and a career half point per game winger who has one good year under his belt.

There isn’t a fit here. The bruins have Studnicka pencilled into their lineup next season

As you commented on the other side of this deal, Senyshyn makes it closer. How close? Because, I actually think the Bruins would be foolish not to do this.

If we are separating the Spurgeon/Carlo part of this deal, it would have to be Senyshyn, Backes' contract, and a 1st for Zucker. Breakdown: Senyshyn for taking on Backes' contract, and the 1st for Zucker.

Don't see it as a huge need for Boston. Zucker is an interesting player, but his production is wildly inconsistent. Spurgeon I'll admit has never really don't anything for me. Boston has Krug/Gryz now and both are undersized. I don't see why Boston would want to add a 3rd undersized d-man. Boston has missed Carlo is both of the past two post-seasons and I don't see them willing to move him.

For starters, I would say you need to see more of Spurgeon's play. He's terrific! While I am not a Zucker fan, I do think he would do much better with the higher-end forwards the Bruins have than he does with the Wild. He needs to play with speedy players, and he is usually stuck with Staal or Koivu (both slooooooow) with the Wild.

I probably do need to see more of Spurgeon, but it doesn't change the fact that Boston isn't looking to get smaller on defense. In fact last year Sweeney said he wanted to get bigger on defense. As far as Zucker goes, he's probably sitting on the 3rd line in Boston with Coyle.

I think carlos upside is close to spurgeon so id rather pay carlo 4 million now and keep him than 1 year of spurgeon.
