Draft floor trades

Created by: Green4D4
Team: 2019-20 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 28, 2019
Published: Feb. 28, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Cap relief for all teams involved.

Chicago: moves out Murphy's contract along with freeing up a roster spot for the likes of Boqvist, Beaudin and/or Jokiharju. Other deals I considered included Anisimov or Saad. However, Anisimov has a signing bonus attached to his contract and would not be favorable for Melnyk's pocketbook (what a guy...). Saad is too loved in Chicago and has a lot of chemistry within that locker room. Could use a guy like him in Ottawa :(.

Winnipeg: Frees up cap and gives a roster spot to a younger guy coming in (Vesalainen). The big thing that could hinder this trade is the M-NTC (5 teams he doesn't want to be traded) on Perreault's contract. That list could include, in bold and underlined, Ottawa. He could be asked to waive it come draft day though in order to make room for Connor and Laine's money. Plus, MP would be almost guaranteed top 6 minutes.

The other thing is growing the kids in A before calling them up such as Wolanin, Lajoie and Jaros. All three guys could use a little more time to cook and could be call-ups when injury happens.

The goaltending becomes tricky in that Anderson could be gone come TDL in 2020 for a team that needs a little extra experience come playoff time. Half salary of course because he is a rather expensive backup and Ottawa will still need to reach the cap floor.

We’re not paying to get rid of Murphy, he has positive value on his own.

Cap floor. He's an RFA so we need to pay minimum 5 to qualify him and, for some reason, Dorion has a hard-on for him so... we're stuck with him.

He's contract is the easiest one to move out of all of Chi-towns D core. No NTC/NMC and no signing bonuses. Problem is he costs way too much to be a 6th D and his spot will most likely be taken by one of Boqvist/Jokiharju. I can see the 2nd rounder being a bit too pricy, though.

Yeah but if he signs him for one year he can just walk at UFA, imo you either sign him this summer long term (which I don't want, also if that were the case he can't demand 5 mill) or you move on. Its better than running into the stone situation except with a worse player, I'd much rather trade him this summer than get an even crappier return next year at the deadline.

No he is not a 6th D on the hawks, he is our best defensive defensman and can play the left side. Joki has tried left side too... no way we lose assets to move him.
