Hughes and Free Agents

Created by: gaskins22
Team: 2019-20 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 1, 2019
Published: Mar. 1, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Avs get the first overall pick from Ottawa and draft Hughes

Prized rookie Makar makes the team

Trade E. Johnson to Toronto to give them the much needed D help. Send Soderberg as well and in return Avs take Horton off their books and get a 1st rounder. Avs send a 4th as well

Ship Calvert off to the Stars for a 4th. Dallas needs scoring help and Calvert is a somewhat cheap fix

Sign Bob to a big contract to solidify to goal tending

Sign Skinner to a big contract to help with the depth scoring

Instead of giving Miko a bridge deal you go ahead and sign him long term to prevent having to pay him more after his bridge deal if he were to continue at this rate (Kucherov)

Compher and Kerfoot get bridge deals

In 2020 you let Nieto walk and give Jost a bridge deal in the 3-5 million range

Barrie will get a raise and you let Barberio walk

Gotta take a couple of contracts from Toronto to make this work. Horton on LTIR doesn't count against the cap. This puts the Leafs up there without them having even thought about Marner/Kapanen/Johnsson.

Funny how you pick toronto of all teams to take on two sizeable contracts. Toronto is struggling to resign their players.

I thought that you can only put someone on LTIR after the season starts, so by trading Horton it would clear his cap space in the offseason giving them some extra capital to maneuver easier. I could be wrong though

Since Toronto's young guys are producing I guess they could move Patty M's last year of just over 6 mil. The Avs would probably have to add another pick, maybe a 3rd?

Paddy has a no movement clause, so he would only wave it to go to another good team. I doubt he would wave his nmc to go to struggling Avs.

Horton is Long term Injury reserve so he will always be off the books.

He may agree to go to the Avs with the additions of Skinner, Bob, Hughes and Makar. All just for fun though

stuggling Avs? they are in a playoff hunt. They had a rough month an a half but have picked up oints in 10 of their last 12 and something like 4 wins in last 6. Fake news.

Soderberg has a M-NTC and Johnson NMC...fair to say they might not want to waive it either
