Have you heard the story about Marleau’s skates? Apparently he’s using a Reebok model that been discontinued and won’t use any other skates. I guess aside from the pair he’s using, he only has one box of skates left. Maybe if his skates crater he would rather retire haha

Marleau isn't retiring, he is going to sign a contract extension.

It's amazing (sad) that my natural gas and electric bills combined are lower than my monthly phone/cable/internet. Sure it's true for most Canadians.

Yeah that's not a problem exclusive to Canada. Here in the Detroit metro area I'm pretty sure that is the case with just about everyone.

Thanks for the input. A would say my natural gas....heating, water heater, oven, is 70 dollars a month, electric is 120 a month. and the total telecom 200. Don't have children which might add considerably to the phone bill.

If that's the reason.....Hide those darn skates!!! I just think he's lost "his hands"....and rather suddenly. He has spurts when he's OK to good, but really he skills level seems to have declined considerably since last April. It's for that reason that if he thinks he's not NHL good enough and would even be doing press box time.... he sacrifices 1.5m next year and retires on a high note.

didn't you see that young buck hurdle Montour tonight? Looks like he has another 3-4 seasons in him.

..and I thought I heard somewhere he was already down to his last pair of reebok pumps

Damn, he does show those spurts of greatness that just might encourage him to stay. But they are fewer and fewer good moments. I think we know about July 2nd what his decision is.

I remember the early sixties, parents would post a skate exchange in the local grocery store. Skates would be about 2 or. 3 bucks. You would drive to a strangers house and try on pair, if they fit, the were yours. When you were older and. playing in more advanced hockey, maybe twelve years old, would be the first time you would get new skates. And hockey stcks...the Hespler and Sherwoods sticks were 59 to 79 cents each. My parents first new home in May 1959, Etobicoke, $ 15,900.

Definitely sounds like a simpler time. I remember going to my older cousin's house and trying on all his old equipment to get suited up for my first hockey season (and this past summer when I signed my son up for the first time, I called the same cousin and got all his kids' used equipment).

Then when I decided I wanted to play goal, my dad would go out of his way to make friends with the parents of goalies a couple years older so he could offer to buy their old equipment off of them.

Today...I guess registration numbers are down...but there's a program sponsored between Canadian Tire and Bauer where, for about $200, it gives the kids about 6 hockey lessons and a full set of equipment head-to-toe.
