Why would Buffalo do this?

Asplund is a good prospect and foligno is a 4th liner

nooo thank you ill keep Asplund-he at keast has some potential-Foligno has already hit his peak and that is a 4th line grinder-weve got enough off those already. also foligno is overpaid for that role...Botterill traded away foligno like right away and he traded up for asplund in draft this deal just makes no sense and would make GMJB look like a fool

thank you all, I saw it earlier and wanted some feed back. While I do not question your judgement and will bow to your opinions that this is a bad trade for Buffalo and Betterall would never make. I liked it because 1) both Foligno and Pateryn get a lot of PK time. 2) Housley said the team was soft, Foligno would give it some grit, 3) Pateryn is a RHD who is better than Nelson 4) Asplund is a prospect while both Foligno and Pateryn are NHL players. As you all said reasons to not like it 1) Betterall traded Foligno away, it is unlikely he would trade for him, 2) both Foligno and Pateryn are nearly 30 yo, 3) both are bottom role players 6th/7th defenseman or 4th line grinder. Thank you very much for taking the time to respond. You are all correct about the trade.

the problem is not the team being physically soft its being mentally soft....cant let a lead go away after 2 minutes every game....no consistency in play from period to period let alone game to game ugh Housley has to go
