If everything goes right this offseason

Description
And that's a big "if" but we pickup a top flight 1st line winger (Panarin), a 2nd tier winger (Dzingel), and a LHD (Nurse) we are filling almost every hole.

At first glance, the Nurse trade is light and maybe that is the case, but Nurse is a 1 year rental with an RFA same as Kahun. I believe the Oilers could definitely use Kahun and we could use Nurse so something more or less may need to be done to balance the trade. Grabbing Dzingel makes Kahun unnecessary and while more expensive then Kahun, Dzingel is a better player too and a better partner for Debrincat. Kahun has a lot of upside, but we also really need a first or 2nd line LHD next season because Beaudin is 2 or 3 years away and Krys is still another year away. At the end of the season, we can determine if we trade Nurse's RFA rights and sign Gus or sign both.

I see either Kurashev or Barratt making the team. Also see Mitchell making the team and Boqvist spending another year in the juniors working on his defensive game.

This puts us right up against the cap (projecting another $3M raise with the expansion) the following year signing Cat, Strome and one of either Nurse or Gus or potentially both depending on what we do for goalie with Crow. Also, the new CBA will be renegotiated and potentially allows for a one time buyout on someone like Seabs. We can always trade Saad after next season to make room especially if Barratt/Kurashev and one of Enwistle or Hagel develops.

Bottom line, this would be a solid team and a playoff contender for sure.

Yeah that Nurse trade is super light, Hawks gotta add a lot more to that trade to get Nurse.

Nurse is a 1 year rental and solid for sure, but if he had term I agree it is "super light" but I don't think it's that far off. Edmonton needs more wingers and Kahun is a 2nd liner in a rookie season with a pretty big ceiling on a ELC so helps the Oilers cap space in addition to getting a very solid young rookie winger.

How's a guy who'll be a RFA a one year rental?
Plus the Oilers defense sucks, taking one of their top 2 defenseman should get them a better return.

I agree, but I would say it's NY, FL, Chi as the 3 in the running so never know what could happen. smile

Oilers have a lot of defensive guys, they can afford to lose one of their top guys given their cap situation. He's not a rental, my bad.

They have like 3 good defenseman and 3 good forwards.. Lol
But yeah if they want to improve that roster they only have a few trade chips of any value they can use and Nurse is one of them, still don't think Kahun and these other two pieces are enough for Nurse though, he's a top 4 LHD.

I think it's closer then you think. The other train of thought is do Nurse = Kahun, Dahlstrom or Forsling and 2nd. Both Dahlstrom and Forsling are cheap 3 LHD guys

Ask yourself this, if Nurse was already a Hawk would you trade him for that?
Do you think that same package is worth a Nurse comparable like say Josh Morrissey?

Depends on the team needs and considering the cap positions both teams are in. Kahun on a ELC 1st year on north american ice and has a big ceiling (waiting for Hawks fans to get upset over losing Kahun), plus a 2nd and a role player or another prospect is not a bad offer for a 2nd line solid D pairing for a team against the cap.

Honestly, I think Boqvist makes the team (or at least gets 9 games with entry level slide). I think Gus gets traded as he's redundant with Boqvist on the team and you can sell high on him. He'll be leapfrogged by Beaudin and Mitchell eventually too. I don't have either of them as locks for next year, especially the former. Below is what I think happens. I think the Blackhawks will be back in the playoffs next year if they add to the forward group.

Keith
Seabrook
Jokiharju
Murphy
Boqvist
Mitchell
Koekkoek - 7th D

BOOO!! Kane and Panarin have a bromance and they've both said how much fun it would be to get reunited.

Ironically, look at what is being said today about Boqvist; he will likely spend another year in the OHL. Until Boqvist is a sure bet to make the team and contribute, Gus is not moveable and based on Powers and others reporting, Boqvist isn't going to be with the Hawks next season. No need to rush his development when you have Jokiharju and Mitchell likely ready along with the group today.
