Defense: Josi, Fabbro (If he lives up to potential), Pesce (better deal Elkolm will need to be paid) D is where I'm flexible if Fleury actual becomes decent it could change everything or if Pesce goes to hell or if fabbro doesnt pan out so..

Tolvanen and Fabbro would be exempted from the Seattle expansion draft.

Tolvanen and Fabbro would have played 2 years full season in the NHL in this situation and would have to be protected. Rinne is not even under contract for the 21-22 season. Saros is a RFA

Players have to be playing for 3+ years or they are protected(one major reason Tolvanen didnt play this year)...Fair enough about Rinne

* All first- and second-year NHL players, and all unsigned draft choices, will be exempt from selection (and will not be counted toward protection limits.
My interpretation is if they play the next 2 years, they would be considered second-year NHL players and be exempt.

"A Player aged 18 or 19 earns a year of professional experience by playing 10 or more NHL games in a given NHL season
A player aged 20 or older (based on age on December 31 of calendar year in which the season starts) earns a year of professional experience by playing 10 or more Professional Games under a standard player contract in a given League Year."

So like during the Vegas Draft Anthony Mantha had to be protected because he played 10 games in year one and 60 games in year two.

So Fabbro is not signed yet and I will find it unlikely he will go over the 9 games this year.
I would expect Tolvanen to also be kept under 10 games this year (he is at 4 games now and last played in the NHL on Dec 11th).

If Mantha played 10 games in year 1 then that was mismanagement by Detroit to have let him play 1 additional game to lose 1 year of team control. :/

I wonder if they try and signed him for the playoff run because there 3rd line D is not very good. Tolvanen still has a way to go on NHL ice he's gotten a lot better recently.

yeah it was, don't think it really matters that much now, other than paying him more money basically
minervabone liked this.
