Rationale behind Subban trade: This trade was made with the Seattle Expansion in mind. If we re-sign Granlund it'll be a very tough decision between 8 skaters and 7-3-1 (lose one of Granlund, Tolvanen, Turris, Smith). This trade allows us to more comfortably go 7-3-1 (end up losing our choice of Tolvanen, Smith, Turris), and adds to our offensive depth without detracting a lot from our defense. I also think it gives us a better dynamic on the back end, as now our top four has two defensive, mean guys, and two offensive guys. (Also want to mention I have nothing against Subban). For the Ducks, they turned a top four guy and top six guy into a #1. Fowler, Lindholm, and Subban is a very good top three. Its tough to gauge how Rakell and Manson are valued to the Ducks, as they both had very good years last year, but have struggle some this year (along with most of the Ducks roster). Other similar packages from teams could be (Risto, Sheary, pick), (Severson, Palmieri, pick), (Pulock, Bailey, pick), (Colin Miller, Reilly Smith, pick). The way I justified this was thinking about potentially trading Granlund and Ellis for Doughty (I think Granlund is better than any of the forwards included in those packages, and Ellis is at least as good as everyone in those packages, although Doughty certainly has a better reputation of value compared to Subban).
Rationale behind Dillon trade: Dillon has had a very solid year, although it is important to note that I believe his primary partner this season has been Erik Karlsson. This trade allows us to upgrade our bottom pairing, essentially giving us a better Hamhuis while keeping the actual Hamhuis as an extra (and only costing us Carrier). From the Sharks perspective, they have roughly 25M this off-season to sign Karlsson, Pavelski, Meier, Thornton, and several other roster holes. This move gives them an extra 2.5M of cap space, and replaces Dillon with a downgrade, but still an NHL level defenseman.
You're essentially digging two holes and only filling one back in.
Rakell has had a down season, and you can see that he really hasn't bounced back after his ankle injury. He's still one of the biggest bargain contracts in the league. Manson is in similar shape. Reliable, affordable contract, a solid guy to have.
Is PK an upgrade? Absolutely. But trading two very good players with affordable contracts for another massive one (To add with Perry, Getzlaf, Kesler and Henrique), while not solving the problem up front (Which is the biggest issue this season), is a pretty terrible idea.

Agreed. Anaheim is bottom of the league in goals/game this season. Some of that is due to down year in several players but they were 19th last season and trading rakell who is one of their better goal scorers isn’t gonna help.
