Oilers need 2 RH D to contend

Created by: CollarMcbroken
Team: 2016-17 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: May 31, 2016
Published: May 31, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Petro trade hinges on Blues wanting top 6 centre that can grow into elite 1st liner with better support and resigning Shattenkirk and adding Dubois/Tkachuk

Vatenen needs to be moved to save cap and create room for Theodore and several other NHL ready D ducks have for cheaper. late first gets it done in my opinion.

Yak deserves a real shot in top 6. Trade value is terrible and I'm sure he will make us regret trading him for years.

I actually like the Pietrangelo and Vatanen trades. I don't know that a low 1st would actually do it for ANA though, they want to win now.

Chicago doesn't make that trade. We have no interest in checking line players. Yakupov might be worth a 3rd or 4th to us.

Pietrangelo is one of the best defensemen in the game, I doubt the Oilers could get him for Nuge. Replace Piet with Shattenkirk and that's a fair trade.

Shattenkirk has 1 year left then UFA. Not worth the RIsk of him walking and us losing 4th OA and Nugent Hopkins

On paper, the Oilers defence looks like it should be OK. Don't know why the Oiler defence for year has been so poor. Don't know if throwing more money is the answer. At the draft, I think the Oilers should draft the best player. Is it Dubois? He can play centre or LW. Backes isn't going to sign with the Oilers. RHN should be able to find spot for a team that needs a centre. Could be St. Louis, Carolina or Winnipeg. All have "excess" Dmen.
Leafs have lots of Dman and don't need Fayne. If he can be "reclamation" maybe the OIlers should do it.

Hard to see the Blues agreeing to trade Pietrangelo. Mentioned above throwing in Shattenkirk instead, only way that works is if Shatty agrees to extension for the trade and I cant see him doing that, he wants to play with the rangers as hes from that area, so if he doesnt resign with the blues I see him going to New York. Also you dont want Backes at 6 years, you will be regretting that signing when you can't trade him in 2-3 years and he isnt performing as he should.

I doubt the Blues will trade their leading TOI player. They will move Shattenkirk before they move Pietrangelo.
