Oilers GM OTT Style Rebuild

Created by: DocArin0

Initial Creation Date: Mar. 9, 2019

Description
People under estimate how well OTTs rebuild has progressed so far. if they had their 1st round pick this year people would be quite impressed with the shape they are looking at for the future.

EDM should be better for 2019-2020, id project they are still out of the playoffs by a good 6-8 points at the end of the year but letting the younger players develop

*Bracco,Bouchard,Bean,Yamamoto, Puljujärvi

I think they could be really really good in 2020-2021 with some good assets still in the pipeline.

Would love to hear EDM fans thoughts on why they do/dont like this trades as always. Willing to listen to feedback as long as its constructive and thought out.

RNH a 70 point pace young C with 2 more years of control on a team friendly deal? I can see how its a little excessive but i used Duchane trade as a base/comparible

Duchene got:

1 First
1 Conditional First (Based on Resign)
1 B+ Prospect
1 C Prospect
---

Given those Facts we can assume RNH With 2 Years of control is worth AT LEAST 2 Firsts ++

well at least you kept Lucic.

I agree RHN isn't worth 2 1st Rounders +, more likely a 1st Rounder a prospect and cash dump

Leaf trade is ok, but the cap hit is a question.

Ott needs a higher cash dump.

Bos needs to get younger.

Value aside, you're doing exactly what Chiarelli did. You downgraded in talent on all of those trades. You gave away proven NHL players for for bottom of the line players, prospects and futures.

this isnt right. There was only one 1st rounder involved in the deal (top 10 protected). If you count the flip of turris to NSH then the total return for Duchene was:

1st (top 10 protected)
2nd
3rd
Girard
Bowers
Kamenev
Hammond

This trade also took Sakic a year to find and is now viewed as very one sided. I highly doubt you would get any team willing to offer a trade for RNH based on what Duchene was traded for after seeing how that ended up. I would also argue that Duchene > RNH.

CAR declines

EDIT: my bad i thought you were talking about the original Duchene trade, although i still think CAR declines

What do you think a rebuild is? you give up NHL players for Future assets... Thats what a rebuild is. Chiarelli traded Futures & proven NHL players for very similar players that really moved them nowhere (Larsson for Hall) (Eberle for Strome) very similar age, skill set (at the time). Look at what OTT did with Stone traded a Proven NHL rental for brandstrom (A HIGHLY touted prospect, Craig Button (Former GM & Director of Scouting at TSN) has him ranked as a Top 5 prospect League Wide. and a 2nd round pick.

For all the hate that is talked about the Dumpster fire that OTT is in everything Dorion has done since the Duchene trade has been pretty good.

Bracco is a PPG player in the AHL this year at 21
Brown is a warm body on a good team for a 3rd/4th line but still has more scoring talent then 6/8 of the wingers on the EDM roster.
Jake Bean is an A-/A level RHD Defensive prospect
Plus 2 2nds & 2 Firsts.

Il adjust the RNH Trade after feedback but Oilers need a rebuild similar to what TOR & CGY have done & OTT are in the process of doing

All of the comments were on the RNH trade, no one mentioned that TML are ripping off EDM to get Larsson. The 2 TML 2nd's would be about 55th OA. I would love to have Larsson on my Sabre team. What do you think of SJS 2019 first (the 26th OA is equal to 3 or 4 55th OA 2nd round picks). If Betterall were to put the Sharks first, what would the rest of the trade need to make it fair?

Maybe not 3 but 2 and more. Especially since this would make Carolina a playoff team so the pick would be among the last half of the first round (it takes 3 20th OA to equal the 2nd or 3rd OA). This sort of explains why Carolina would accept the Buffalo 2nd for Skinner.

I agree, RNH would return at least equal to 2 first if not more.

See above the value of what Carolina's first round picks would be worth.
