Reading a book..."Animal Care". Came upon a section on chimpanzee behaviour and thought how it compares to the desire for people, using RFAs as an example and their desire for fairness.

So in the chimpanzee equipment, two chimps are separated by a mesh cage but are requested to do a task. There are multiple cages with these two chimps each Only when the task in complete will they be rewarded with "sweet" food. So and times each chimp is rewarded with cucumbers which they like. At times each chimp is rewarded with grapes which they REALLY like.

Then at times they will reward one chimp with cucumbers and the other with grapes. Now this causes a riot. Chimps who are now getting the lowly cucumbers will protest. Refuse to work and work with on the next task, throw their cucumbers at their caregivers. These "second class" chimps were really upset.

I can this behaviour to the Leafs RFA signings. A few years ago guys were playing junior for 35 dollars, or going to college and getting little money.
Then they sign to be pros and they get amount amount the same amount of money, guys on ELC get about the same. Let's say it's 2m with bonuses.
Now they become RFA, and 5, 6m ain't enough. Nylander refused to do his task (see the chimps above) until he got 7m. For some reasons Matthews, thought he deserved the second most grapes in the league and got 11.634.m. I don't blame him, his care givers thought so to, for whatever reason.
Now this Marner contract. Sure sounds like Mitch doesn't want to settle what the best RWer in the league makes....9.5m. or even what the highest winger makes in the league makes, 10.5m. It HAS to be very close to the alpha male in his pack Matthew at 11.634m. (according to rumours) To think when he was playing a London a few years, all players had the same amount of cucumber he was quite happy, Now it's not good enough.

I don't blame the player, after all we are all homo sapiens and not too far different then are chimp cousins.

Maybe players look at the junior/ college as interning. As an intern you’ll make the same as your peers regardless of performance . Then the draft would be grauduation and based on how well your internship went is were you get placed job wise. Unfortunately this is were basic life and sport differ. The best student gets the best situation...... best junior hockey player tend to go to the worse destination. I honestly don’t have a good point but I think the major difference are the agents and their greed. That’s my opinion on the matter. They can brainwash young kids into thinking a situation is better or worse.... again I have no clue.
