First, most of those deals don't go through. It's a cap league, and in many cases equal money has to be traded back and forth.
But it is a false premise that having a lot draft picks and no picks make a good team in the future. Besides fans and owners want a competitive deal or at least hope. Having a bunch of 2nd and 3rd pick or worse, which a few might turn into NHLer into years down road, Do you fans/owner want to wait five years for a couple of third rounders become good enough to play on third line or last pairing defence.

Weber stays , if you only see his cap thats on you.
NHL players revere and respect him for a reason , you should learn from them .

Danault isnt worth moving until Kotkanemi develops into a reliable top 6 guy.

Poehlings excellent but never endured a long road trip or played an 82 game season so his stamina just isnt there to step up into the minutes that come with Claude Juliens 4 line system unless he start's out on 4th getting his minutes on special teams then i just dont see it making us good enough to move Danault as Domi's only able to succeed because Danaults there handling bulk faceoffs . (in this scenario you're expecting him to fill that role making him a primary defensive center first .

to much is just gone unconsidered for this to work

I would hope Tatar and Petry combined are worth more than a middle 1st, 2nd, and 3rd pick. Have to agree with comments above that Weber and Danault in particular are too valuable to development of the younger guys for the moment.

interesting concept, so who do you take with the 3 first rounders?

yeah tatar was traded for a 1st, 2nd and 3rd himself last year and although that is a slight over payment combined with petry and the return is an insult
