Big contract move and using our cap room

Created by: Rideordie
Team: 2019-20 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 12, 2019
Published: Mar. 12, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Toronto will have to move Marleau to be able to sign Marner, but they still wont have the money for Kapanen and the other rookies. Kapanen is the price to get marleau out and Mtl gives up 2 cheap young guy that could bring a decent return for Tor.
Second trade is a long term win for the Ducks because Kesler contract is horrible but by accepting this trade, they will have alzner bad but 2millions cheaper instead. The only down side for them is the first year where they would have Marleau contract also. Habs give up a 30 pts forward in charles hudon also.

can the ducks really afford or want to take alzner and marleaus money at the same time. they might just want to wait out kesler or lose a pick to get him gone and not take anything else back on.

Kesler, just like Perry, has a NMC. Why would he waive to leave SoCal for Montreal? No to mention, buying him out would cost less than taking Alzner, then you add in Marleau (who also has a NMC of his own).

Marleau has a full nmc and went to TOR to win. If the Leafs clear cap it won't be by moving Marleau.

First Marleau has only 1 year so after the first year, without the buying out anyone, alzner contract is cheaper then Kesler. Marleau would only accepte the first trade to mtl because the Gm would garrenty he would be moved again out west if possible. Kesler would accepte because I do believe he will think he will have a better chance to win with mtl then Ana.

Toronto wont give him a choice. They knew all along the third year would be to much but they wanted him for the first 2 year. So it will either be buy out or trade and if mtl can promise him he will be moved out west after the trade, I think he would accept.

Pretty sure no one would take on a 6.8 mil cap hit with out sending a bad contract back. This way, they keep draft picks and or prospect by having 1 year of 2 bad contract so that afterwards they would only have 1 bad contract that is 2.2 mil cheaper then keasler.

Kesler buyout=$2.25x6=$13.35.

Marleau is owed $6.25.
Alzner is owed 3 x $4.625=$13.875+$6.25=$20.125 mil

If the intention is then to buyout both Marleau and Alzner, the dollar amount that needs to be paid out is $6.146+Marleau's $6.25 continues to count against the Ducks cap.

Are they saving some money long term? A bit. But a)Toronto doesn't need to give up Kap to get rid of one year of Marleau, and b)Kesler already contemplated retirement this past offseason. Pretty easy fix is to fire him on LTIR/Robidas Island (Or, buy him out...).

As for having a better chance at a cup by playing in Montreal? I'd put a lot more money on Anaheim bouncing back (especially given that they've had the most man-games lost to injury this year by a long shot), and riding hot goaltending through the playoffs than I would of Montreal making it through Toronto, Boston, Tampa, Washington and Pittsburgh.

Kesler has a NMC, He's not leaving Southern California for Montreal same with Cam Fowler. And Marleau isn't waiving his NMC for Montreal either.

Never said Cam Fowler was comming and always consider that the players prefer keeping there contract alive then to have it bought out.
