Description
This is a very solid 4 lines up front. Yes, the defense could use some improving but the help comes next year with Boqvist, Mitchell, Beaudin all should be ready. Haula is a 1 year deal, Barratt should be ready to step into his shoes after the season adding $2M in cap space. Murphy would likely get moved also creating room for Mitchell and or Boqvist adding roughly another $3M in cap space. Thus there is room for Cat, Strome and Kahun to get re-signed.

I only have one problem with this:

Why would Vegas want to sell Haula?

Vegas is going into a nasty cap crunch this offseason. They have zero cap room to re-sign Karlsson. Either Karlsson's RFA rights are traded or they need to move a few pieces like Haula or Eakin, and someone like Reaves or Colin Miller and Reaves. Bottom line, they are in a very tight spot. Nobody is going to want Eakin's cap hit and Vegas can't afford to retain. Colin Miller is way to valuable to Vegas. That leaves Haula, with knee surgery, the odd man out IMO along with finding a taker for Reaves.

Does that include Clarkson being on LTIR?

Yeah, it's pretty tough situation for Vegas. The alternative is to trade Wild Bill's rights.

Love the forward depth, hate the D depth. Even with the young guys coming up this team wont be a legit cup contender without one more veteran D man. Boq Mitchell and Beaudin all look good but there are no guarantees in the show. Would rather have the safety of a known commodity who could help take the pressure and tough assignments off the young guys

It's fair to say that Vegas will be in a cap crunch come next year, however, that doesn't mean they'll be desperate to trade valuable players like Haula.

If Vegas was to trade Haula, it's almost guaranteed they can get a better offer for him

Haula is out the entire season with major knee surgery. It's a gamble whether Haula will play again and at what level will he play at. Also, everyone knows Vegas needs to move Eagen, who nobody wants his cap hit, or Bill Karlsson or Haula.

Eakin is a great 3/4C, there should be many suitors to take him on.

Karlsson won't get a pay raise, this season proves that last year was pure luck for him, so that could open up 1.5M in cap.

And as I said before, Haula making less than 3M for only 1 year while being a serviceable 2/3LW, guaranteed Vegas would get better offers than a 3rd

Eakin is a great 4C and a OKAY 3C. At $3.85M cap hit, he's not a cheap 4C option.

Clearly you don't seem to understand their cap situation. Vegas projected cap hit next season is $82.3M with 15 players under contract. Vegas can do one of two things; offer Karlsson a long term deal for Karlsson at a $5M cap hit roughly (that is what he'll get in arbitration), or he can go to arbitration and be awarded a $5M cap hit and then become a UFA.

So again; Vegas either keeps Karlsson at a $5M cap hit and has no choice but to move pieces like Haula, Eakin and Reaves or they are going to have to trade Karlsson's RFA rights. I'm guessing they move Haula who's an absolute wild card coming off of season ending surgery in December on his knee...it's the lowest risk move.

I'm not going to debate this; the Athletic did a great piece on this very subject March 9th...clearly they are more informed then you or I so that is why I made this team as a result of that. If you think Haula is worth more then a 3rd rounder or a 3rd and prospect, that's your opinion but besides one season (last year) his career has nothing to show that he should be making more money or command more in a trade especially after knee reconstructive surgery.

This is terrible cap management. By signing 2 men to deals that total over 14 million in AAV, you just pissed away any opportunity to sign DeBrincat (about 7-8 mil AAV), Strome (5-6 mil AAV), Kahun (2-3 mil AAV), and Gustafsson (3-4 mil AAV).

No, it's your terrible math and lack of understanding driving your response.

Next Year, cap will be at least $85M.

With this team, they will have $22m to spend and have 14 spots filled. That leaves 7 or 8 spots to fill.

3C - Haula = Barratt ($925K ELC)
4LW - Caggs = Entwistle or Hagel ($925K ELC)
3LW - Kahun = Kahun ($2.5M)
2C - Stome = Strome ($5.5M)
2RW - Cat = Cat ($7M)
4RW - Hayden = Entwistle or Hagel ($925K)
1 D spot open = Boqvist or Mitchell ($925K)
Crow - done, will be Delia and either Namilov or Forsberg (save $2.5M although Namilov is on a ELC also)

That's $21M in signings and guess what...that's also the expansion draft summer so someone like Saad or Murphy or Kahun is going to get exposed so that's more cap space on top of this which already fits without that.

Again...simple math buddy.
