Just don't see Kappanen and Johnsson taking a contract below 4mil. Why would they take pay cuts when everyone else isn't?

I was using comparables and this is what there salary would be if there is no increase in performance

*Ahem*
Sam Reinhart

You guys are soo ridiculously high on their contracts it is beyond absurd. They should both be ~3 at the max lol.

Nylander got payed after two 60 point seasons playing with Matthews. Both Kappanen and Johnsson are on pace for 50-60 points when given the same opportunity. Why should they take a pay cut? Matthews didn't, Nylander didn't and Marner isn't. If I were their agents why not take a shot at it? Don't see any reason why they shouldn't. They definitely won't get Nylander money though but I say the players could easily ask for 4-5 mil and see what happens.

Using Reinhart as the comparable is 4.59% which is 3.8M+ on two year. Kapanen here was given 4 years which would bump that number up.

Reinhart also made 3.5 million in p bonus since he entered the nhl. Then signed a deal for 3.6 x 2 years. His career high was 50 points. Assuming neither aj or kap got p bonuses .... I imagine they want to get paid. Leafs are their own worse enemy. Paid Matthews too much so marner will want similar compensation. Paid nylander 7m now kap and aj will want paid a lot more. Nylander is on a 32 point pace for a 82 game season.

Reinhart had 3 seasons scoring 50 points before he signed that contract

Previous contracts mean next to nothing when negotiating a new contract. Reinhart had 3, 50 point seasons before getting his bridge deal, Kapanen and Johnsson barely have 1. They wont get nearly as much as him.

The rest of your comment is incoherent babble that is entirely unrelated.

Haha yeah....incoherent babbling. I guess the fact that both players are going to put preform nylander by a large margin means nothing. They’ll gladly take a fraction of his pay.....the reality of how terrible the leafs offseason could potentially be is scary for leaf fans I get why you are clinching onto unrealistic expense. It’s okay maybe it’ll work out but your gm has greatly overpaid all his superstars I highly doubt he’s going to handle this well

Matthews is worth being the 2nd highest paid player in the nhl. Marner is going to get a massive payday bc your gm did that. Nylander is barley worth 6 million. Again reality sucks. Hopefully teams don’t offersheet your young talent bc you seem to think they should take pennies on the dollar.

Also 42 47 and 50 ? From what I’m to understand that would be 1 50 point season not 3. Haha math is hard.
