I am legitimately beginning to think that the best option is to bridge Marner. It will mean that the only player needed to move is Brown, and allows mitch to get PAID as much as he thinks he is worth in a few years.

That’s a no from marner, Johnsson, Carolina, I think Vegas, but that’s close, and a no from the nhl too because the cap is likely to be 83 flat

Lets face it Leafs blew the Nylander situation, Why would Marner bridge? He gets 10.5 to 11 all day long.

I think Kapanen and Johnsson need to be singed for 1 year and signed long term when Marleau's contract ends. Marner needs to sign a bridge too

the only problem with bridging a player with his talent level and playing on a line with JT is his stats will only get better as he does so what will he want in a few years . it is a nice problem to have.

How is any of that relevant at all? We are talking Marner here, not Nylander.

Marner would bridge because he wants to play for his home town team, get paid matthews money (which he is in no way worth as of now), and keep the team together for a few shots at a cup. You are also absurdly high on his contract lol. They were asking 8@9.5 the day of the Matthews contract lol.

    Also:
The Leafs did not blow the Nylander situation. They actually did very well. His closest comparable would be 6@6.54 with cap inflation, and he got 400k more than that after a 2 month hold out with the Draisaitl contract existing. That is a fantastic result.

If Marner rejects an 84 million dollar deal, I expect Nylander to get a million apologies from angry fans lmao.

I don't see how Marner could possibly turn that down. He'll have pretty similar numbers to Patrick Kane coming off his ELC, and Kane already had won a cup (and the Calder). The equivalent Kane deal with an 83m cap would be about 5 yr x 9.2m. If 8 yr x 10.5m doesn't sound good enough, he might need to reevaluate.

Mango already did the 1 year thing, he will want the Hyman contract plus inflation plus their difference in skill. I expect 3-4@2.75 ish for him.
1 year deals aren't really a thing anyway, outside of QA's, so a Kappy bridge would more likely be 2 years around 2.5-2.75 considering his point totals.
It also works well with our current contract structure:
    JT (6)
    Papi (5)
    Willy (5)
    Mango (4)
    Marner (3)
    Kappy (2)

We will have plenty of cap space in a few years to work that out, and hopefully our prospects are ready by then and should be regulars, meaning we will have young cheap talent (on the blue line and depth F) to supplement him. 3 years works very well, and I am happy to pay mitch way too much in a few years time if he earns it (a la Kucherov).

Vegas won't have the cap space to make that deal. They have to resign Karlsson with about $4M in projected space. Adding on the extra $650K from Zaitsev to Miller, and a little over $2.1M from Nylander to Tuch only makes things incredibly tighter. It won't happen
