Created by: Michael
Team: 2018-19 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 13, 2019
Published: Mar. 13, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Looking for realistic offers for T.J. Brodie in a trade that would likely happen at the draft.
He's a Top 4 Dman who can play either side and has 31 points. Has one more year at $4.65M. CGY would likely prefer forwards or picks/prospects with some young defenders looking ready.

I would look to move Brodie for a more legitimate 3rd line centre than Jankowski

Why do you want to trade Brodie? He plays 21.5 minutes per game, has a good Corsi and has 31 pts this year.
Let me throw this back to you, make an offer to the Sabres.

He left out the part of where Brodie has been a complete liability the last few weeks haha

Calgary would do that for sure.

But watch the highlights of the game last night. The 1st goal and somewhat the 3rd you can put the blame on him and the clips don’t show the gaffes that didn’t end up in the net

NJD Gets: TJ Brodie, James Neal, 2019 CGY 1st

CGY Gets: Pavel Zacha, Steven Santini, 2019 NJ 2nd, conditional 2020 3rd (if the Devils don't buy out James Neal before the 2020 draft), conditional 2020/2021 2nd (if TJ Brodie signs an extension with NJ)

No retained salary in either direction

OK, that is understandable, BTW I appreciate intelligent conversations as this. You know most of them are, you are stupid, that is a dumb trade, do you ever watch hockey etc.
I would like to have Dahlin, Brodie and McCabe LHD and Montour, Ristolainen, Bogosian RHD. Brodie is better than every other Buffalo defenseman other than Dahlin.

Brodie is a good player. But to me he’s a very similar player to Jake Gardiner, high risk, high reward.

I just think Calgary will move a D this summer as Andersson has looked terrific this season. It would be either Brodie or Hamonic they would move and IMO it’s not close, you move Brodie because what he brings to the table could be replaced by Valimaki, Andersson or Kylington. Calgary doesn’t have any D that can bring what Hamonic does

I think Buffalo would be a good place for him and I’m sure he would gladly go there if it’s on his NTC as it’s very close to home for him

TJ Brodie, James Neal, 2019 CGY 1st
for Pavel Zacha, Steven Santini, 2019 NJ 2nd, conditional 2020 3rd, conditional 2020/2021 2nd
That looks pretty good, all of the picks, since they are NJD, may be worth more than CGY 1st. Zacha and Santini are young so that helps. But now, how does this help the Devils rebuild?

With one year of left on his contract. "Bad" teams don't want him or would give up much. Good team generally don't have cap without giving money back to Flames.

The Devils rebuild is not as far away as people think. A top 4 LHD would totally change the team. Also, he is around the same age as Hall, so the Devils are building around his time frame. Brodie, as well as a couple of other pieces makes them a playoff team

Basically my thinking is that the Flames seem comfortable getting ready to roll a Giordano-Andersson, Hanifin-Hamonic, Valimaki-Kylington, Stone defensive lineup. Brodie and Hamonic are also both UFA’s after next year so I think only one would end staying simply due to $.
