Yikes. An elite center that has put up 30+ goals in back to back seasons for a 20% chance (max) of landing a guy that you hope can be as good as the other guy.

This assumes OTT pick has first overall, solves TBs cap issue without actually removing 2-3 pieces & COL still gets an Elite center. For the record Hughes is getting comparisons to Mathews in level

Getting compared to someone doesn't mean you're going to be as good as them. People compared Mittelstadt to Matthews as well, does that mean he's going to be as good as him?

Wow. If that Ottawa pick is 1st overall, this would be hard to pass up for both teams. Reason I don't think it happens is because of Rantanen's contract and the need for another defenseman since Barrie's future is up in the air.

Try making a roster of the 2019/20 Avs with the new salaries of Point and Rantanen to see how cap real it is for the Avs.

Who compared Mittelstadt to Matthews? That is and was a ludicrous statement

This trade would have to happen after the lottery and the Avs happen to luck out and get the #1 pick then in turn flip it to Tampa for Point at which put the Avs now have to resign Point and Rantanen after they've both had career seasons making it next to impossible to improve in net and on D where they really suffered this year.

Instead if the Avs luck out in the lottery, they keep the pick, draft kakko or Hughes and use them to provide secondary scoring on an entry level contract and use the remaining cap on improving every part of the team except the first line. To me that makes way more sense.

There were numerous comparisons around the time of the World Juniors. Middelstadt's showing there really brought out the crazy in some people.

Colorado has a ton of cap space. Soderberg/Nieto/Barberio will free up 8 mil the next year too. Also Cale Makar will be in their top 4 as well.
