Ozhiganov will get between 950k-1.25m. The idea of a cheap one way deal for him doesn’t apply as he has been on the active roster all season.

Leafs prob. need to send away Zaitzev with a sweetener to shred cap. Marleu is valuble as a veteran, but that contract is SO bad. Prob. this is gonna cost Johnson or Kapanen for Leafs into nex year. Ouch

He was taken out of the roster after the Muzzin trade (up until Dermott and Gardiners injuries).

We we're playing with Rielly, Muzzin, Gardiner, Dermott, Hainsey and Zaitsev.

If Ozhiganov asks for too much than he'll probably be traded and replaced with Holl or Liljegren.

--------

However - I personally think the Leafs will trade Zaitsev + Brown + Pick + Prospect for a cheaper (and probably better) RHD.

Bracco, Marchment or Envall could replace Brown on the 4th line.

That would solve the cap issues and then some.

Yeah I agree about Zaitsev .... but he's not THAT overpaid.

Adding Brown + 3rd rounder + Timashov would probably get rid of him pretty quick.

No he was healthy scratched. He was never sent down. This means he was paid his full 925k. Ozhiganov will not be traded. He will simply go back to Russia. Personally I think that price range is good bang for the buck. He is much better than Holl and Lilly isn’t ready yet.

I would think 1m would be enough to keep him here and who knows maybe he would take his QO...

Other than Ozzy I think your number is in line with dubas’ plan. Your logic on trading zaitsev with some incentive is a good plan. My personal target would be mayfield. Would not need much... maybe brown or a 2nd and you could afford Ozzy who would be a good partner for Rosen.

Zaitsev is much better than he gets credit for on this site. Due to his contract he certainly doesn’t have much positive value and it is most likely a primary target to be moved. Kappy and Johnsson on the other hand are great bang for the buck players and are due for a bridge deal. When dubas had Matthews number he immediately traded for muzzin. I do find it odd that he only tried to negotiate with Johnsson before the deadline but it may be that kappy doesn’t want to negotiate mid season. Either way I don’t think the idea was to take on muzzin only to have to move kappy or Johnsson.

I meant what you said .... game day roster not 23 man roster.

My guess is Oz gets $925,000 for 1 year on a 1-way contract.

Mayfield is exactly the person I'm hoping they trade for.

I'm also hoping Dubas adds an extra prospect (Timashov, Brooks, etc) to convince NY to retain around $500,000 on Mayfield (long shot but NY has TONS of space).

Swapping Zaitsev + Brown for Mayfield (500k retained) + Bracco saves $4,800,000 in cap-space .... which would be huge.

The other guy I hope they go after is Nick Ritchie at LW .... he's in year 1 of a $1,500,000 x 3 year deal.

Doubt they retain on such an already great contract. Personally I would rather keep Bracco. Corners will need to be cut but I think zaitsev and brown for mayfield plus whatever small pieces to make it work would pretty much get us under the cap.

We're not trading Bracco ... I mean't that he would replace Brown on the 4th line.

I'm hoping Bracco turns into the playmaker that Kadri's line needs (Hyman / Moore - Kadri - Bracco).

Then Kapanen can turn into the sniper on Marners line (Kappy - Tavares - Marner).

And Johnsson can rack up points on Matthews line (Johnsson - Matthews - Nylander).

I would think it would be criminal if Johnsson doesn't get equal pay of Kapanen. In fact with the Leafs LW depth weaker than their RW depth I would prefer Johnsson over Kapanen if push comes to shove (Kappy trade bait for a RHD ?). I still believe somehow magically the final year of Marleau's contract disappears, ever since day 1 when he signed that contract there was talk about that 3rd season. Another more desperate option is to trade Kadri and place Nylander or Marleau into the 3rd C role. I think trading Zaitsev is too hard, that contract price and term is too high and there is still the fact the Leafs would still need another Top pair RHD and trading away Zaitsev doesn't get you a top level RHD back in return. Or the Leafs just sign Kronwall or Chara on the cheap, lol

If, if, Marleau decides to retire.....and I'm leaning that he will the Leafs will be OK cap wise. Not big cap players have to be traded. But if he doesn't think it getting more problematic.

I'm in the minority when I think it's Nylander....for cap reasons and the fact the Leafs have at least numbers in wingers of replacement. Many think Zaitsev. But I don't thin the Leafs have enough Dmen to replace him and his big minutes. So much depends on 6.25m Marleau.

Everyone seems to assume that a retired Marleau will be easy to trade his contract, which Toronto will still have to do or else they are still on the hook for his cap hit. If he retires, Toronto is in the same situation, they will have to give up some assets to convince someone to take Marleau. And please don't say Ottawa will do it just for cap, did you see Melynk rip Toronto yesterday, no way he is doing anything to help Toronto's cap issues without getting a lot of assets back.

Not to mention that Marleau has a No trade clause, so he's not going anywhere.

I wonder if Zaitzev and the 10 million or so that would buy him out would net a draft pick from a financially struggling team if he has to be moved.

Exactly. If he retires, the Leafs are stuck with his contract. If they can move him, they might still have to include enough to pay his salary for the year and some asset (prospect or a draft picks) to get someone else to take on that cap hit.
