St. Louis has been hot of late, there are better options in FA and they do not cost them a top defensemen.

Ottawa will have their pick of cap floor options, many which are cheaper and will give them something in return.

Lastly Arizona is putting together a good team, with ypung players with entry level contracts coming to an end, and will not be able to absorb that Marleau cap hit. Also they will want a young player like a Dermont or Sandin if they were to make this deal, not picks.

Bwahahahahahaha. I guess the Blues will have to throw in Allen then. Top three RHD on a generous contract for a talented but not even top five RW whose contract moves into the $9 millions starting next year.

Nylander, Sandin and a 1st would likely get the Blues to think about moving Colt55.

With respect, it would take a little bit more than parayko to move nylander.

Rumor has it that before this season, the Blues and Leafs had worked out a trade of Nylander (during hold-out) and a first for Pietrangelo. Toronto balked due to the pick. Just think how good the Leafs would be this year if they had made that trade. They are pretty freakin' good right now. Put a RHD who excels at putting pin-point passes onto the tape of all of those forwards during a breakout...watch out. Alas, Toronto overvalued Nylander (who is still pretty darn good but not a world-beater) and, as someone above stated, "when" the Leafs bow out early in this year's playoffs, they can look back at their dumb refusal to add a top-flight RHD as a contributing factor to playoff mediocrity.

I appreciate the comment, but I respectfully disagree. Nylander is very good and likely will become even better, but scoring RWers are much easier to acquire than top-three RHD who completely (and routinely) shut down an opponent's top line. Both are great players, but the law of supply and demand have to be factored in too. It is more than just a talent-for-talent trade.

One other thing I failed to mention, check Petro's playoff stats...he's even better come crunch-time than he has been in his regular seasons. That is EXACTLY what would have helped TOronto go deeper into the playoffs. It was just a case of stubbornly overvaluing his asset by Dubas.

I guess we can't come to terms then. But hey at least we tried right? ?

I think that if the Leafs could include the $10 million or so to buy him out, some financially challenged team might go for that. Take him on, buy him out then that helps them towards the floor while trying to develop something. You just have to make it look like a real trade or 29 other teams will squawk about it...
