Description
This is what I would have an idea for next year. Johnsson and Kap are both given one year 2.5 million dollar deals. They wait out one more year for a big pay day after Marleau's contract of 6.25 million ends. Marner signs for 9 million. Some might think that is low, I think its just right. The deal with the Oilers is the big one here. They clearly want Brown, which I think would be great along side McDavid and RNH on the right side. Marchment adds more winger depth as he has destroyed the AHL this year. Zaitsev goes back in return who can play on their top 4-6. The deal isnt fair though until the Leafs send their second over. Larrsson is a big right hand shot who would pair fantastically with Reilly. Sandin, Rosen and Lil will battle it out for the two top 6 roles. Expect Borgman to be there as well. The year will be tough because of Marleau's contract and him playing at a fourth line pace, but the guy is a lengend and deserves to win a cup either the prevouis year (right now) or next year.

I don't think the Oilers "clearly want Brown". If Brown is traded, Oilers are a logical choice, but it's the NHL not Erie. Liljegren and Sandin one or both, are clearly a stretch to be NHLers next year. Leafs haven't really solved their cap problem with these trades.

It was made very clear the Oilers wanted Brown at the deadline but fair enough.
I dont think theyre a stretch, more Lilgegren because he cant stay healthy but I think Sandin has shown huge growth in the AHL this year.
And this was never to solve the cap issue. Because Marleau is untradeable and cant be bought out. It's about next year when the cap becomes more clear for the team

You can think that’s right for Marner all you want. We’ll be here laughing when he signs

If Marner signs a long term deal, it'll be minimum 11 million AAV, his agent will compare him to Matthews' contract and Marner has been better than Matthews in the 3 ELC years in regular season and playoffs.
Like Marner's agent said: ''No one else is taking a discount, why should Marner take one?''

I honestly think it'll be a bridge deal for 2 years, 6-7 million AAV, let Marleau's contract expire and then he'll get a long term deal

2x7.75 or 3x8, give or take 1mill. Kappy is guaranteed at least 2 years if not traded. AJ is complicated, I would only sign him for 1year.

Matthews>>>Marner.... sorry but this is just the truth. Marner is a great player but he just isn’t Matthews. When Matthews is playing angry like he has been it really shows how dominant he can be.

I do agree with your later comment about a shorter term deal and I can’t see marner signing a 7 digit deal over 8yrs

Don't get me wrong, I would rather have Matthews on my team before Marner because he's a very skilled and big 1C, and I do think Matthews will have a better career than Marner.
Where I was going earlier was that Marner had a better 3 years than Matthews overall considering every game each has played season and playoffs. That could probably be explained by Matthews being slowed by injuries. Matthews does deserve the contract he signed, he's in that line of current elite NHLers.

Matthews is in line to be the next Jeff Carter.

Edmonton says no. Any deal involving Larsson would require Kapanen or Johnsson going the other way.
