Building around the core and missing pieces

Created by: CanucksInsideTrack
Team: 2019-20 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 24, 2019

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
We won’t be able to unload all these players but I would definitely try to!

This team needs:
Top 6 LW - (Draft, Ferland, Johnsson, Panarin, JT Miller)
Top 6 RW - (Draft, Kapanen, T Johnson,)
RHD - (Miller, Pesce, Hamilton, Trouba, Fabbro, Fox, Risto, Subban, Myers,)

Just ideas for names, many are unrealistic but that’s exactly who I would be targeting. Would consider moving 1st rounder to get one of the better RHD men, would need to get the LW and RW players via UFA or trade (which would be difficult without our 1st).

With some draft luck and creativity this team could be very good next year.

How about Spurgeon? Only has a year remaining but I think he'd be open to signing an extension if he's moved. A deal like Spurgeon + Zucker makes a lot of sense for the Canucks. I'm not super hot on any of the players you listed as trade pieces, but I think we'd have some interest in your 1st round pick and/or Gaudette (not necessarily for Spurgeon and Zucker but something revolving around those pieces).

Spurgeon / Zucker would definitely fill a void, agreed that Gaudette will draw interest and could likely be a key piece to move. I would be looking to take back a bad contract to get the players we need. Ie. Tanev (50% retained) for Zaitsev/Johnsson

Maybe a cheap option would also do! Perhaps something like Goldy and Leivo for M. Benning and Puljujarvi. Benning has proven that he can be a capable top 4 d man at times and Puljujarvi. Puljujarvi may as well break out next to Horvat and trading Leivo saves us a spot to go after Ferland or something! Thoughts?

I don’t think that would be enough from Van’s side but Puljujarvi would be a good buy low target, I could see a team giving up a late first for him

True! but Goldy has done better than Pool party in terms of points so essentially their value is quite even. Also, Edmonton wanted Brown for Benning from Toronto so Leivo will do as well!
