Trading Quinn Hughes to COL

Created by: CanucksInsideTrack
Team: 2019-20 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 25, 2019
Published: Mar. 25, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trade Q Hughes add Makar, Byrum, Jost, Caufield.

This would be a franchise changing deal. If you have to add a 2nd or anyone in Utica go for it, would consider Virtanen, Woo as trade chips as well.

This isn’t the starting lineup next year, just an example of depth and lineup once Byrum, Caufield, Makar are ready to go

Let’s say Makar and Hughes are of equal value. Goldobin and Grandlund aren’t worth Jost and a first. No reason for the Avs to do this deal.

Any idea how much additional $ the franchise would be worth with boy Hughes brothers? 2 American brothers, US city, could be in the 100s of millions

One of the lowest valued franchises in the NHL, if the owner could increase the value of the team by $100m do you hunk he gives AF about Jost and 15th overall draft pick?

Care to elaborate? How exactly the team value raises so much by doing a stupid trade?

How does having brothers play on their team increase the value of their franchise?

Keeping Makar, Jost, 1st -> Better team long term-> deeper in playoffs -> more ticket sales -> more $$$ -> higher valued franchise

Making a bad trade -> get 2 brothers -> be less successful -> dont go as far in playoffs -> less $$$ than if we didnt make a bad trade

I agree that it's not an even trade. But 1 for 1 I'd take Q. Hughes over Makar all day long.

The Canucks are more valuable this season than they were last season when they had two of the best Swedish BROTHERS to ever play the game. Sure they weren't Canadian, but two brothers of that magnitude retired after last season and the Canucks value jumped up by $5M for 2019. Not saying there wouldn't be value to having both Hughes brothers, but insinuating that the Avalanche (valued at $430M) would become "hundreds of millions of dollars" more valuable is asinine.

Another example? When John Tavares went back to his hometown Toronto Maple Leafs, their value jumped from $1.4B to $1.5B. That translates to a 7% increase. Double that for both brothers and apply that to the Avs $430M value, and you're looking at return on investment of 14%, which would bring their value up to $485.9M. Last I checked, $55M wasn't "hundreds of millions of dollars".

Do you want to know what the best way to add value to your team is? Winning the Stanley Cup. The Washington Capitals went from a franchise valued at $625 before winning the Cup. In only one year, they are now a $725M franchise. Amazing what a Cup will do for your value.

So in summary...there's no chance in hell Colorado makes this trade, because, as the people above stated, Makar > Hughes, an if Joe Sakic really wanted to increase the value of his team, the best way to do that would be to put the best team on the ice...even if the brothers aren't on the same roster. The best team he can put on the ice, in this scenario, involves Cale Makar and not Quinn Hughes.

Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

Trading Quinn Hughes to Colorado absolutely makes zero sense, Especially once Detroit takes his brother Jack with the #1 overall pick this summer.
