noooooooo! Why ruin the good thing we have going in all the cap space we have just to move up a bit in the draft, no thanks. That contract is crippling and I don't want the habs to have anything to do with it...
Personally if that pick end up being anywhere in the top 10, I'd do it. No hesitation. Reilly is easily replaceable and a 3rd nothing we couldn't live without. Could have easily traded a 3rd for Weal at the TDL and still not changed a thing.
People on here love to complain about the lack of talent on the Habs but don't want to get dirty to get the players that have it. They think lehkonen+Kulak+4th = high end talent.....
Want elite talent? Either
Draft it yourself. You need to suck enough to draft low enough. A whole year wasted.
Overpay in free agency. Usually isn't worth it either...
Trade elite value in exchange for elite value. Meaning Poehling, Romanov, Suzuki, 1st round picks and guys like Domi are going the other way.
Salary / cap hits are malleable. Teams have endless options to help deduct, reduce, remove, trade, alter players cap hits at their disposal. You know what is not malleable? High end draft picks. You can't simply go to the draft pick store and get a top 10 pick for 50$. You can't just go to another team and expect them to trade you a top 10 pick for players "you don't mind losing anyway."...
Its just money! Buyout Lucic, work around that extra cap hit you have to take on for the next 4 years and worst comes to worst, trade Armia. Trade Lehkonen, trade players you can live without for picks and or prospects in return (no cap) in order to make it work. In the end they are replaceable. You know what isn't replaceable? The best players on your team and those guys are almost always drafted in the 1st rounders. Especially top 10 ones.
Whats the point of having cap space if you don't use it? Its not like UFA's are lining up to sign with Montreal and other than Domi, no major RFA's to sign either.
