Overpay for Kapanen big time! Why not just offer-sheet him and only give up a 1st, 2nd and 3rd?

You could but they might match, also gets some value for guides to make some cap space for the other deals. I would also rather give up the 2020 first than the 2019 first. Ratcliffe also doesn't really have a winger spot right now with Farabee, TK, Lindblom, and G taking up the top four spots in the near future. Tack Jake and JVR on there too.

Just because they don't have a spot doesn't mean you just dump them. Gudas has value as well. He has been our most consistent D man all year. Kapanen on the other hand is over-valued. You don't give a guy who had 1 ok season $5.5 mil per. Especially when his stats will be inflated because he has played with Matthews most of the time.

It's not impossible but it is improbable to think you could get him by offer sheet. GM's hardly ever offer them... and It's even harder to get a player to sign one.
Since the Salary cap came in (2004) there's only been 8 of them signed and only 1 (Dustin Penner) wasn't matched. The chances are very slim to sign a player to an offer sheet let alone actually get the player.

That said...i do think it's a bit of an over pay...and an over pay is probably what it would take to get Toronto to trade him. If somehow contract talks get contentious, like the Nylander talks, then maybe the price would come down.

The Leafs situation this summer is just begging for offer-sheets. I know they don't happen often but times are changing. RFAs are getting $10 mil per year...ASININE!

I don't disagree, and i wish it would happen....but there's always a team that is "in trouble" and facing offer sheets....never happens tho.

Personally i'm a Gudas fan. I'd rather try and lock him up to an affordable extension and probably move Ghost.
I love Ghost too....but i just think he's going to get the most return due to his play/contract, and with Provorov/Sanheim able to anchor the PP then Ghost becomes a little more expendable.

No way Nashville accepts that trade.
