You must not know that Ryan Mantha lost all his vision in one eye and doesn’t play hockey anymore and that Kris Russell has a no trade clause (he wants to stay in Western Canada).

Also, any free agent making less than $1,000,000 (Puljujarvi) has to be paid at least 10% more than his previous salary.

Mantha is still under contract, whether his eyes toast or not, and they’re still not sure it is.

Russell has to pick 10 teams he can be traded to no matter where they are. While I don’t think the Ducks would be on that list, there isn’t 10 teams in western Canada

It’s a 5% increase on the base salary. Puljujarvi’s base salary is $832,500 with a $92,500 bonus, making his qualifying offer $874,125

For someone so informed (and thank you for the info on salaries didn't know this) Mantha is simply a strange choice. Improbable would be a signed Desharnais or Berglund or Marino jumping straight to the NHL, but a player going to the NHL after missing an entire year and with no NHL experience would be a bloody miracle.

We are talking about miracles here, and all those were used up until the end of time for this franchise with the 2015 lottery win.

I’m not sure what you’re talking about here. Mantha is on LTIR on this team, not playing. Cap friendly doesn’t have a Season Opening Injured Reserve section, but SOIR is where the Oilers have him now. He’s not playing in the NHL, but the Oilers have to do something with his contract.

Whether someone puts him on LTIR or moves Mantha down to the AHL section it doesn’t matter. He’s not playing and doesn’t count towards the cap

You moved him after my comment from 3RD to LTIR....you didn't have Petrovich on this roster before, so now my comment makes no sense.

No, he is pretty much bang-on. Did you see what Nick Schmaltz was signed for?
