Improbable would be a signed Desharnais or Berglund or Marino jumping straight to the NHL, but a player going to the NHL after missing an entire year and with no NHL experience would be a bloody miracle.

I’m not sure what you’re talking about here. Mantha is on LTIR on this team, not playing. Cap friendly doesn’t have a Season Opening Injured Reserve section, but SOIR is where the Oilers have him now. He’s not playing in the NHL, but the Oilers have to do something with his contract.

Whether someone puts him on LTIR or moves Mantha down to the AHL section it doesn’t matter. He’s not playing and doesn’t count towards the cap
