We were hopeful lol. But Vegas just had too much to offer. Immediate playoff run, low taxes, burning his ELC and who knows what they promised him in the way of renegotions in the offseason. Not to mention being able to go to the rink in shorts every day.

Yep all the same things that were available to him back when so many Habs fans were proclaiming he was going to sign with Montreal guaranteed....Lol

Montreal is rarely ever the team college free agents want to sign with. I never understood the almost certainty that this kid, all because of his good pals playing here with the Habs, was going to sign here. It just didn't make sense back then and clearly doesn't make sense now.

I still think MTL was in the running till a couple of days ago. What I figured killed it was MB's refusal to budge on negotiations while other teams offered him the moon. Only time will tell if that was wise or incredibly stupid.

From what I heard, Mtl wasn't even in his top 5 teams he narrowed it down to. Its an ELC, what could he have possibly asked for that MB couldn't easily match?

Did you look closely at the signing? It's 925000 for the rest of this year, burning his ELC and making him a RFA in the offseason and you'd be naive to think they haven't already discussed the base of that new contract to lure him to Vegas.

So, what? Vegas is going to give him 5M?? Lol how much can they possibly give him without a little proof first?. How much could the Habs, easily match considering they have way more cap space and a need for precisely what Schuldt has? I'm not naive, I just don't think $$ came between Schuldt and MB. I think Schuldt just never wanted to sign here to begin with.

You may be right. The unfortunate truth about FAs, but at least Alzner was willing to sign in MTL right? Lol

Yeah its a sucky situation but having a good team should help it out a bit so we're on the right path.

Well at least the Alzner signing showed one thing, a player may still sign here if given a ridiculous offer. But his other offers have to be limited. Lol

I may have misread the news feed on TSN but because of age, he's not eligible to play in the playoffs this year. Needed to be signed prior to trade deadline to play in playoffs. Vegas could only sign him for one year at the max ELC. He'll play the final two games and that's it. And if I'm not mistaken, he can't go to Chicago of AHL to play there either. But like it was mentioned here already, Vegas most definitely has a deal in place for July 1.
