Mile High Pandemonium

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
1) Ottawa wins the draft lottery. This means Colorado wins the draft lottery. They draft Jack Hughes. He starts his career at 3C but works his way up to 2C to play with Kerfoot and Zuccarello.

2) Avs make the playoffs in the 2nd wildcard spot in the west and pick 16th overall. They swing for the fences and draft Spencer Knight. He is the goalie of the future but won't make the show for a few years.

3) Sign Varlamov to a 2 year, high dollar deal. this ensures there is room to pay Girard, Makar, and Hughes in a few seasons.

4) The Blackhawks trade is just an idea. With two firsts, the Avs can afford to trade their 2nd rounder to try to get some cheap depth. Sikura has all the tools, but is struggling to put it together in Chicago.

Good effort on this one.
I think you got the signings/value pretty close.

As for Varly, i dont 100% agree on bringing him back BUT if we did, i think he happily comes back for much less than 7.5mil (think closer to 6mil).

Also try these D pairings:
Girard-Johnson
Zadorov-Barrie
Cole-Makar

I'd say you're spot on there with Varly & The D pairings and a good effort from the OP.

Gotta sign compher too. Probably in ine 2.5-3 mil range for a couple years. They might go long term with him for a higher cap hit. That means zucc is probably not gonna happen. I'm on board with bringing Varly back on a 2-3 year deal.

Oops, good spot, I'd missed Jimothy Timothy not being there. Yep, he's a definite re-sign. I'd guess around 2.25 to 2.75 on a two year bridge as he isn't quite there yet, maybe down to a bit of time missed through injuries but he has the tools, just needs to put it all together at the same time.

I think the only real problem that I see is the fact that you say they draft a goalie at 16 OA...im not sure when the last goalie that drafted in the first round was but it is extremely rare.....

Yeah it is definitely a risk. Very hit or miss. Knight looks like the real deal and his draft stock seems to be rising.

2012 Draft:

19th overall - Andrei Vasilevskiy
24th overall - Malcolm Subban

Tampa hit and Boston wishes they could have a "do over" on that pick.

It's semi rare but worth it for what people say Knight could be. He's already projected as a late first rounder and with two firsts makes sense for the Avs. Oettinger was taken in the first round just two years ago and a lot of the top goalies in the league (Price, Vasilevsky, Fleury) were first round picks

Thanks for the advice. I don't follow Colorado closely enough to know the specifics.

Signed him and sent Calvert to Ottawa for a pittance (not sure his value, TBH). They'll need to hit the floor somehow and he may end up as a decent trade chip at the deadline next year or the year after if he gets more ice time in Ottawa.

I'd send Nieto rather than Calvert. Calvert has been really good for the Avs on the PK and causing havoc on the forecheck. Sign Varly for less and you could probably do it.
