New And Improved

Description
I think all of the trades and signings are pretty straightforward.

The MTL trade .at need to be explained. Toronto gets a hard working, pesky player who is capable of 70+ Points and does not shy away for the rough stuff. Domi brings a lot of energy to his game. Plus at a discount and a new team/fresh start maybe Alzner can do something like he was projected to do.

The Habs get a young winger/Center who is capable of 60+ points and signed to a good term with good salary. They also pick up a good prospect center in Adam Brooks, a discounted Zaitsev who can help on PK and is being paid what he's worth. Plus the Habs can actually use him instead of burying him in the minors like Alzner. They also receive a 1st round and most likely another 3rd (good chance Nylander hits 60+ points).
The trade may need to be tweaked with different players but I think it's a decent and fair swap.

Thoughts?

Karl Alzner and Adam McQuaid will never ever be in a leafs jersey. If they do i'll eat a sock. They do not match the team dubas wants to create, they dont move the puck well and their passes are grenades. Why block the path for liljegren, sandin, and rosen to play for those stay at home guys

The difference from Nylander and Zaitsev to Domi and Alzner isn’t worth a first round pick IMO. I would rather keep the first and Nylander and trade Zaitsev. (by packaging him with a pick or maybe brown). Also, moving Nylander and Kadri leaves a huge whole at 3C.

With Rielly and Dermott, the Leafs need someone who will stay at home. Plus Sandin and Liljegren are 1-2 years away from being ready. The term of Alzner and McQuaid are such that they will clue up when the young Defense corps are ready.

Other than the Defence, how did the rest look?

For what is gained with Domi, I think Marleau can fill in nicely.
The following year, there's money to rent a Center or advance a prospect.

I think Sandin will ccome up next year, same with liljegren. Kinda how Dermott came up in January last year. I dont think we need those guys and i certainly dont htink Dubas will go after them. Expect to see Rosen + Borgman fill those roles instead

Alzner is more of a package to get Domi. If he doesn't play it's no loss. Could play Rosen or Sandin or split them. I think McQuaid would be nice for some added toughness. Without some physicality, they'll get worn down in a playoff series.

The leafs don’t have a legimate center prospect to advance and if you haven’t noticed Patrick Marleau is struggling to produce in a sheltered role this year and certainly wont be able to drive a line next year. The strength of the leafs is that they have 3 lines that can hurt you. Trading one of Nylander or Kadri might make sense but trading both is shooting yourself in the foot.

Domi is a major part of the character movement in the locker room. You aren't going to trade that for a guy who held out in order to get maximum money.
