Doubtful even if he turns out to be McDavid 2.0. $18M (maybe 19 or 20 in 3 years to come) a year for 1 player?! Maybe in 2030.

If Hughes is McDavid 2.0...then in three years while still eating $5.5M of Doughty...Hughes will be making $12.5 or more while eating 5.5M. That's probably on the low side (due to inflation in 3 years) with the qualification of Hughes being McDavid. BUT if he isnt...then even more reason to NOT make the trade if your LAK.

Just showing that even if he turns out to be the best player in the NHL...LAK wont do this. You're welcome

So you're telling me that if you walked up to the GM of the leafs, and said. "Hey, you can get the best player in the world. You can get him at 18, and have him for as long as you want. You'll also get two solid depth d men, a 19 year old that was just the 10th overall pick, a 20 year old first rounder with a bit of NHL experience, and another first round pick from a team that was a bottom five team in the league last year, but you've gotta give up a great 30 year old d man that has 8 years left on his deal and eat 5 million a year," that guy says no? good god

If you're thinking 18-20M is good for 1 player...change your handle to Chiarelli is God. Cap matters. You CANT have them for AS LONG AS YOU WANT. Thats ridiculous. If all those prospects turn out to be half as good as you're suggesting...you'll have to pay them too.

Spoiler: Hughes will be nowhere near McDavids level
