Risto isn’t worth a top 7 pick, not even close.

I dont think Buffalo can pass that up, im not one calling to move Risto but a top 10 pick is hard to turn down

That TOR trade is BAD for the Oilers. I doubt Johnsson is any better than Benson and Brown has little value. Meanwhile Larsson is a key player for the Oilers.

Benson in the AHL
20 years old: 65, 14-49-63 +19

Johnsson in the AHL
22 years old: 75, 20-27-47 +8
23 years old: 54, 26-28-54 +16

Larsson is a solid defensemen, yes, but he only has 2 years left until UFA. Benson will likely be a solid NHLer but that has absolutely no effect whatsoever on Johnsson's value to the Oilers. He put up 20-23-43 this year and can provide some desperately needed secondary scoring at a price that the Oilers can actually afford. Brown doesn't have a ton of value but he is only 2 years removed from scoring 20 goals and could easily put up 30-40 points in the Oilers' Top 9.

I just wish Larsson was more consistent, 75% of the season he is pretty good shutdown guy but the other 25% he just slaps pucks around the boards like he wasn't taught that passing is a thing. Need few guys that have poise on the puck (Sekera, Jones) to make a play to the forwards its a different game now the dumping it out repeatedly is just asking for trouble

I think just anyone who isn't a Sabers fan would keep the pick.

I'd probably give a late 2nd for Risto. I'd have to be pretty desperate though.

My point is that those 2 guys don't equal Larsson's value to the Oilers. They have no replacement for him, while they do have other options for 2LW and depth RW.

If you look back at this season you'll see that Larsson played well until Klefbom got injured, at which point Larsson took on an enormous workload. He played the toughest minutes of any Oilers d-man this year and had the most D-zone starts against elite opposition of any regular.

This was the only season in the past 5 that he's had a negative GF% - talk about selling low.

I may give up the 1st for Risto but Buff would have to take Sekera back?
