By fixing the team do you mean firing everyone, getting rid of the owner and making realistic trades?

Pretty interesting. I think Edmonton would have to eat some salary on Lucic, but it’s interetin. I would bump the contrast for the two rfas down to 3 years so they’re still rfas, or bump them up to 5 or 6 years with a bit more money. I think Toronto matches, but you never know. I doubt he would sign the offer sheet, although if it’s 4 years and walks him to ufa he might

Montreal needs a solid LHD who can play top 4 minutes, Edmonton needs to dump some cap. It just works

I didn’t know what to sign Lehkonen to if I’m being honest so I sort of guesses. As for Kapanen, I truly don’t believe Toronto has the cap space for him

general rule of thumb, if the player is coming off a standard three year entry deal, sign them for anything but 4 years.

Toronto would match this and then make a trade for a bigger return. If you think Kapanen is the answer then Edmonton will need to do two things.

1. Shed enough salary that they can afford this. Which means finding someone willing to take Lucic and I don’t believe giving up a future number one is the answer.

2. Be willing to give up a roster player to dubas.

At the draft if a guy MTL is eyeing hard is still there come EDM's pick then switch out Sekera for Russell and you'd probably have yourself a deal.

Yup. That's a significant draft jump going from #15 to #7-8. Habs would seriously consider it depending who is still available at that draft spot.

Sekera is a better rounded player than Russell, and only 1 year difference in age.

Yeah but Russell is cheaper and actually plays instead of spending most of the season on the IR. He's also a defensive defenseman, figured pairing him with Petry would allow Petry to jump in the rush more.

Swap Russell for Sekera, don't see value in Brown trade, lots of bottom 6 forwards available through FA. I think a 3rd pair D is much more valuable than a 4th line forward

Don't like how Yamo and Benson and Bouchard are on the team. Just sign depth guys and let those guys develop properly in the minors.
