Another 2019-2020 Realistic Scenario

Created by: TMarch
Team: 2019-20 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 8, 2019
Published: Apr. 8, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Does not move up or down in the lottery (#4 pick). Take Byram with the pick (could also consider a C like Turcotte or Cozens). He spends an extra year in juniors (no point in rushing him), though if they do move up to 1 or 2, both Hughes and Kappo would be on the squad (obviously).

Using KH's words as a guide, no FA signings unless it's Panarin, EK65, Duchene (which I think is borderline top notch player). Outside of that, grow from within.

Kronwall resigned for 1 year, Daley moves on, Ericsson to the bench (no point in buying him out), Hicketts makes the squad instead of going through waivers. Hirose makes the club as AA's LW. AA experiment at C continues (as it should). Ras makes the squad on the 3rd line (would go to GR if he doesn't make the 3rd line).

Svech gets to spend more time developing in GR (is not waiver eligible since he did not play this year), which is necessary. Veleno is the top line C in GR.

Hank and Mule to regular IR, since DET is not close enough to the cap. Mule is a potential trade piece to get someone (OTT) to the cap floor without paying real dollars.

put Zetterberg and Franzen on LTIR bc they're retired. now you can go to town with the ~$11 mil in cap space that gives you smile

Even when a team is trying to get to the salary floor it costs something player, pick, or prospect. Since Hank and Franzen aren't costing any cap space why give up an asset to move one of them?

Most of your lines I agree with. Though I do think, knowing blashil that the second line will probably look different. He will want a better defensive player or power forward with doubles and hirose. Maybe Zadina moves to top line and Bert moves down. Maybe something different. But just where my heads at looking towards next season.

The first line is the most productive line Detroit has had since Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Holmstrom.

I like it, And could see it going down this way. But i think that Holland will pursue one of Karlsson, Duchene or Panarin and offer them money that they can't refuse.

Well I'm pretty sure Panarin going to Florida is a done deal. I'm good with Karlsson but I still think Detroit is to far away. Now Duchene I don't think it's a coincidence that a teams play drops when he is on that team.

Agreed now that Coach Q will be the Panthers next coach. I think it's a given that both Panarin and Bobrovsky are South Florida bound. And my 3 favorite teams are the Red Wings, Lightning and Panthers. Yeah while Karlsson would be sweet. I doubt he'd consider us seeing that we're still 4-5 years away from building a competitive team. And i agree with you Duchene is a cancer i'd stay away from him. Just wouldn't be shocked if Holland wouldn't go after him. Just depends on where we pick tomorrow night.

Since I'm not close enough to full cap, you can't put Z and Mule on LTIR. I'd need to be within $2.5mm to do so (to do both). Now, if I had signed someone and that me to $4.5, I could put one of them onto LTIR and recover the money. Either way, it doesn't do anything to affect this scenario for 2019/2020.

I think Blash will look at chemistry. If the last 2 months were any indication of next season (and over the last 2 years they have been), this team is going to have to score a lot, and have its forwards be the best defense. The chemistry with Taco and AA was excellent, and I believe Z would be a HUGE upgrade over Helm on that line. Obviously the chemistry was great with Bert, Lark, and Mantha (this is the recreation of the Y, Shanny, McCarty line), and I think Nielsen is the perfect 3rd line C (with Ras swapping into the C position sometimes. I think Ras needs a shot at C).

By putting Z with AA and Taco, Taco is the primary setup man for that line, with Z playing the swing (scorer and playmaker), and AA being the pure scorer.

The improvement from this team (forwards speaking) has to come with lines 3 and 4. This was a 2.5 line team. Blash needs to find a 3rd line combo that works, and use the 4th line to grow some players (Ehn, who I believe will have a scoring career like Kris Draper).
