Can you really get Trouba for free next year? Is Winnipeg going to sign him to a 1 year deal and let him walk in free agency? I personally think they’d be crazy not to trade him to an American team that he’d be willing to sign with. American teams will still give up assets to acquire Trouba. He’s a top pairing, right shot, 6’3”, dman and he’s still young. I see a lot of Detroit fans say the same thing: “why give up assets for Trouba when we can sign him for free next year”. I’m not trying to get into a big argument or anything, I just think there’s no way Winnipeg isn’t going to get back good assets and players for him while they can.

Of course they are going to trade him and there is their problem. Just like Panarin Bob, everyone knows they aren’t resigning with their current teams so why would anyone give up anything of significance to acquire them? I’m not saying they won’t get something for him but to think a piece like Trocheck would be involved wouldn’t be smart business. The only way I see a team giving up something like that is if getting that 8th year is that important.

I get what you’re saying. I just think there’s a big difference between Panarin’s situation and Trouba’s. Trouba is still an RFA and I think he’d be willing to sign with any decent American team that offers him enough money. Panarin has said he wants to test free agency and sign with a southern team. All that we know with Trouba is that he wants to play in the US, not Winnipeg. If I was philly, or the panthers, or Detroit, or New Jersey, or the rangers, I’d still be trying to outbid other teams to try and acquire him and sign him. But I guess we can just agree to disagree

First of all, play Appleton, he is more than NHL ready now.

Secondly I like the above posts regarding trouba but this is simply not the right trade. The jets do not want to give up lowry or Appleton without replacement roster spots. Nor do they really want Pysyk or Mamin.
How about Trouba signed for 2019 1st (assuming they don't win the lottery tomorrow), Denisenko, and a 3rd.
OR
Trouba signed and Appleton for 2019 1st and Borgstrom

Keep Trockeck, we don't have to money for him and you need him more.

I think you have missed the concept of "free agency". Trouba appears to going the route of wanting to be a UFA, so he's in effect a one year rental. So while the Jets may want to trade, his value in a trade isn't worth a player a good player with term. And really why should he Jets trade him? If the Jets feel they need him for a Cup run next season, they keep him. There are about 80 UFAs every season, they don't all get traded and where would they go. Contending teams actually trade for upcoming UFAs to make themselves stronger playoffs. Why is Trouba so much different than so many of other upcoming UFAs? And he'll be a UFA, when he signs the mandated one year contract this summer

You said the same thing last year with Pacioretty. He looks great in a Panthers unif....oh wait...

You seem to think any top player approaching free agency in a year or two can be had for "free", as if the Panthers is a premium destination. players like the idea of playing in Florida, but it's with Tampa Bay lol

Patches never got to free agency, I’m glad the Cats didn’t pay the price Vegas paid. I was stating rumors too, I personally didn’t care either way if we got Patches. Trouba is a little different I would like to get him but not by mortgaging high end talent so no Trocheck, Tippett, Borgstrom, etc. Also you get those teams that become very desperate and mortgage there future for now success but hurts themselves long term. All we all can do is watch and wait. Should be interesting to say the least.
