Want to explain to me the Eriksson trade? Why would Ottawa ever do that?

Instead of paying guys not to play, they get a guy they can play in their lineup and count against their cap. They need to be above the cap floor and can't just play AHL players the entire season.

They're not paying them.
Insurance companies are paying them.

And Eriksson would probably be categorized as an AHL player. Atlease the Sens aren't paying their "AHL players" 6Million dollar over the next 3 years.

Well it also frees up roster space for the senators that they can use to their advantage, like how they signed a bunch of college players at the end of the season. At the end of the day Eriksson needs to get off this team and maybe some salary is retained and maybe it's another team that takes him but I'd like to live in an offseason where this happens. Maybe it doesn't and the canucks will have to roll with it but I can't watch him play on this team anymore.

laugh laugh laugh I know the feeling. ^

Might have to retain in a trade with a high draft pick (2nd) or wait a year or two and buy him out.

Or do something similar than the Phaneuf trade to Ottawa. You pick up short term trash to get rid of long term trash
