This was tweeted 20 minutes before the draft. Someone should be liable for this huge blunder

The bitter irony of the lottery system. They implemented it to stop teams from rigging the system then they rig the system....

idk if it was rigged, or just a technical mishap. Regardless, the lottery clearly isn't done live and this is a really poor look on the NHL and creates a lack of confidence.

I mean why bother doing it lottery style if it’s not live.....isn’t that the entire point? If it’s not live then it’s easily tampered with and seems pointless.

very true. that's an excellent point. I can't think of any good reason for the lottery to be "pre recorded".

It makes sense that a person in Sweden would know the result of the lottery draft before us in North American. They are six hours ahead of us.Huh?

This doesn’t show anything about it being rigged. The ball combo selection was completed before they aired the announcement so the winners were already known. Just a technical issue.

Never said it was rigged. Said it was leaked. Regardless, it’s unacceptable to have an error of that magnitude. They should just use the draft balls live. None of the card BS

I like the cards. What confuses me is how they could have already had that on Sportsnet's draft board. They hadn't announced it yet. Maybe someone did a test before everyone else got there? But why did they film it?

Also, was it during the live draft lottery show? I was watching the draft lottery show on Sportsnet. Did I just miss it?

It was on some Swedish live streaming site. Apparently that side doesn’t have commercial breaks so they broadcast the cameras during commercials. Didn’t know that was a thing. They must’ve been doing a practice run before the lottery started

But when was the lottery drawn? Because if that happened at 5, they wouldn't have done a practice run with all the people there who weren't supposed to know.

I'm still confused why they already had it on their draft board.

I believe you're correct. Even "live TV" sometimes airs on a slight delay. Sometimes as little as 10-15 seconds. This is done on network tv to allow for "bleeps" when someone swears or otherwise embarrasses. This is my theory. At the end of the day, they should've just broadcast the ping pong ball segment live, but they wanted the cards to be more "dramatic."

Am I the only one who actually likes the cards?

I just want it to be live. I like the suspense but seeing that tweet spoiled the entire draft. My buddy screamed out loud and showed me the tweet before the draft even started. I didn’t believe it at first but as soon as they skipped Chicago I knew it was legit.

Yeah, but what are the chances of that happening again next year?

Sorry I was referencing capsin’s comment about it being rigged. Realize that’s not what you said. Quite the blunder indeed. Not sure exactly how they draft the balls so maybe they think it’s not enough suspense? I really don’t know.
