You're basically doing Faulk for Nylander one for one...
No chance on that one tbh

Honestly as a Leafs fan (ie neither Canes nor Sabres fan), I think the value is closer than you think BECAUSE of age and in particular CONTRACT. Tonnes of control on Nylander left. Faulk is a UFA in 1 year. Without resigning him his value will be significantly suppressed

That Tamp trade (a) makes no sense for Tampa and (b) is terrible value for Tampa

Ristolainen is worth less than Johnson alone, let alone Johnson and a first. But more importantly Tampa needs to cut salary, they are not going to acquire a guy paid as much as Ristolainen

Why would you even bother with the Canes trade, just keep Nylander and Risto, instead of swapping them for 2 guys at the pinnacle of their career

I think you are wrong bc Tampa has 3 D-men over 32 that will become UFA's and 2 others that will become UFA's...they weren't sniffing at the trade deadline on Risto for nothing and that's a trade that is revisited this summer. Risto gets a bad rap bc of his +/- but the team sux and he plays big minutes, put him opposite Hedman and see how his stats change. I do agree Johnson and a 1st is over payment, it would be more like Johnson and Callahan plus a minor piece for Risto. Tampa rids themselves of Callahan's contract plus 11 mil from those 3 D-men which will be used to sign Point who is due a huge raise and other RFA's due a raise. Risto's contract is an affordable 5.4 mil for the next 3 yrs so Callahan's contract takes care of it plus Tampa still makes 400k for the cap

Maybe you're right then, but I'd challenge you to go make an AGM to see if it works based around Callahan and Johnson for him.

I read something today from one of the insiders that if Botterill decides to trade Risto there will be a lot more interested teams than just TB. Maybe it's not Johnson and it's JT Miller, who knows but I'm a firm believer in if there's smoke there's fire. The Sabres need at least 2 if not 3 forwards and you can't overpay in free agency to get all of them (Okposo is a prime example of over payment), trade has to be an avenue and what do they have to trade Risto, Nylander and what will probably be the SJ 1st.

You guys are at a point in your development where it's probably more valuable to keep Nylander.
