Description
In the draft we trade down to let the Red Wings select the stud defensemen they badly need at #3.
So to start I left a lot of space here to give an extension ASAP to Debrincat and Strome. and the possible future spending in young defensemen once they are up years down the road.
This is just my starting point I am still on the fence about Kampf. I like what he brings defensively but Kurshev's defensive ability has been highlighted by rockford coaches this last week. I am also torn on keeping a player like hayden who does not get the time needed but with Cags and Ferland he may be done in a hawks uniform.

I also haven't resigned a lot of players I like and reserves I like because I'm not sure where they fit if we add players Like Hoffman and Dzingel. I have Heard the Dzingel does what to come home to Chicago but I heard the same about Hayes as well so he could be in that slot as well.
I think Ferland is highly undervalued and I think he is one of my top targets for the hawks. Adds grit and some scoring to play on any line. I think he could be a good and cheaper replacement for Saad

I have no idea what do about Slater and Gustav because I am not sure where the Hawks will be with our younger talent. If Mitchell or Krys can that #6 or #7 D man then I think trade or don't resign both of them. I also worry about Goalie Depth but that is one reason I only traded one prospect in Nalimov or Forsberg and I think with our extra second rounder we dress goal tending.

If you hate my trades let me know why and what you would do instead of just saying no please.

This sheds some salary for the Panthers, gives coach Q one of his favorite players again, veteran leadership, and a young price controllable forward in Sikura who could play in the top 9.
FLA
  1. Keith, Duncan ($1,500,000 retained)
  2. Sikura, Dylan [RFA Rights]

That Carolina trade is horrible for the hawks. Saad for De Haan is pretty close in value; Hawks will have to add another piece or pick such as Hagel or a 4th rounder. I'm not opposed to this but then you bring in Ferland who is a very similar player to Saad but not as good.

Dzingel is a winger, he rarely plays center. Also, being a Chicago guy, the Hawks should be able to get him for $5M give or take a little but he's a great addition.

Kampf is a lock in the 4C position. Perlini probably signs for less $1m to $1.25m.

While some will argue, the Florida trade is fair if Chicago retains on Keith 1 for 1 for a 1 year rental in Hoffman (he's a UFA). No reason to add Sikura.

Hawks at the #3 position won't draft Turcotte. Dach and Cozens are better players then Turcotte even though I like him and he's a Chicago native. Dach or Cozens may be able to step right into the lineup. Podkozlin is the best player at the #3 position but the Russian contract is a concern. I would draft Cozens, and either Cozens, Barratt or Highmore are the 3C with Kampf the 4C. Dzingel becomes your 2nd line winger to play with Strome and Cat. No need for Ferland.

We should only get two of Hoffman, Ferland, and Dzingel at most, maybe even just one. Here's my ideal lineup for next year:

Ferland - Toews - Kane
Cat - Strome - Dzingel
Saad - Cozens - Kahun
Caggiula - Kampf - Entwistle/Kurashev/Kubalik

Keith - Jokiharju
Gus - Murphy
De Haan - Seabrook

How do other Chicago fans feel about that one?

"In the draft we trade down to let the Red Wings select the stud defensemen they badly need at #3." Chicago would not take that, Detroit is not the Only team that needs to fix their defense. Detroit would need to cough up an arm and a leg for the Hawks to say yes. I would personally not even trade that first round pick. Panarin is going to be the first person the Hawks offer a contract to so you might want to add him on there, Gustav and Slater could head down to the AHL, their both top 2 AHL d-men at worst, at best a seventh d-man. Goaltending should be better in the future, Delia is not that bad and has a lot of potential, he is no Saros but he would be a Fringe Starter when Crow decides to hang up the skates. Try to sign a few decent defensive D-men because all we really have is good ones who play an offensive game. Connor Murphy is not a top 2 d-man so sthat is where the defensive d-man comes in. Don't worry about the cap too much because it will be higher next year. Other than that I don't know what to say that hasn't already been said.

Hate it, really terrible trade. It is extremely generous in my opinion.

I'm not a fan for a couple of reasons. A.) If it's determine Vasili isn't North America Bound...then to me the #6 pick is within 3rd tier talent. Hughes/Kappo...then Vasili/Byram/Cozens/Dach...then the Turcottes/Zegras/etc... So until I hear Vaili's North America bound. the #6 is a tough pill to swallow for me.

BUT more importantly is B.) There's TONs of data to show what trade value needs to be for moving up in the draft. Literally dozens of trades to review. This value isn't close to enough.

Trying to filter top 10 picks only...and picks for picks only

Logan Couture #9 for #13, #44, & #87
Luke Schenn #5 for #7, #37, & #68
Colin Wilson #7 for #9 and #40

So to jump up 3 spots in the draft from #6 to #3...it'll take something more like #6, #35, and #58...Something very close to the Luke Schnn trade, but honestly it would take MORE since it's the #3 OA vs #5OA AND it's jumping up 3 slots vs 2 slots. So start thinking picks from multiple years. The #6, #37, #58 and 2nd rounder next year...Or #6 and 1st next year.

im not concerned about podkolzin playing in Russia next year. If he wants to play next year in the NHL he can opt out of his contract and he plays that 2nd line spot and there is no need to sign dzingel. Save the money for boqvist, Jokiharju, Mitchell, Cat, Strome, and all the other guys.

The issue is SKA is paying a lot more then the NHL ELC and nobody knows Podkozlin's financial situation. That said, I would take Dzingel over Ferland any day of the week as Ferland is a water downed Saad IMO

That's why I included that last line. I was pretty sure most Hawk's fans wouldn't like it.
