what does Toronto have to gain by trading Muzzin?

I can tell you right now the CBJ trade is never gonna happen.

Columbus declines.... Wennberg and Zaitzev are close to the same in terms of value, adding Nuttivaara is crazy for Columbus to entertain as a realistic trade. Sorry.

I liken this to the Horton/Clarkson deal, where if CBJ can't afford to keep $4.9m in the pressbox, they atleast get a functional player. to sweeten the deal the leafs could include a young LHD (Borgman/J. Lilgren/Gordeev), or a draft pick to which CBJ has very few remaining in 2019

Well the fact that you think Wennberg is so bad you have to buy him out is sad.... he’s a young player who seems to have no confidence. We also don’t need a RHD making 4.5 so we are really only gaining 400k in cap space at a position that Zaitzev might not make out team behind Jones, Savard and Peeke(yes I know he hasn’t played but he’s been in the system and knows they way we play). So it’s keep Wennberg and play him 3rd/4th line or make him a wing and play him on the top line LW(cuz we have no one on the left side after Panarin and Dzingle leave or move him for a 7th d making 400k less and losing Nuttivaara in the process..... not a smart move by Columbus.... if you added a LW who could play top line minutes like a Hymen or someone then maybe, but as of now it’s a pass for Columbus.

What the hell is that Muzzin trade? Even if you do feel you have to trade him (you certainly don't), then why the hell are you trading him for such a **** return?

If the Rangers were willing to trade Pionk so cheap, well sign me up, but I'd be shocked

Also Pionk just got 35 points as a defenseman and he'll sign that cheap?

I agree with all of the other comments and have this to add: in February, Muzzin cost a first, a roster player next year and a prospect (however distant), and in June you think he's only worth a second?

I suspect his play this playoffs would determine his value. So lets assume he has a good, but not special playoffs (two rounds, plays 22 minutes a night, a little in the plus on plus minus, 12 games or so maybe 2 goals 7 points).

He would certainly be worth less than previous as he is had for one less year. I'd guess the 1st + two good but not A+ prospects (which is what he cost) would be downgraded to a 1st alone? Maybe a 1st and a lesser prospect. If a 2nd as above better be a damn good prospect.
